CHAPTER THREE HUNDRED AND NINETY THREE – THE FINAL AMBUSH
Jasmine spent the rest of the day and night in constant motion, hitchhiking and taking a series of short bus rides to make her way back towards the city and the airfield where Michael worked. She avoided main roads and busy areas, her senses on high alert for any sign of police presence.
As the appointed hour approached, Jasmine found herself on the outskirts of the airfield. The night was clear and cold, the stars twinkling overhead like distant beacons of hope.
She crouched in the shadows, watching the perimeter fence for any sign of patrols. Her heart pounded in her chest, every rustle of leaves making her flinch.
At precisely 2 AM, Jasmine saw a figure approaching from inside the airfield. Even in the darkness, she recognized Michael's lanky frame.
He reached the fence, quickly cutting a hole just large enough for Jasmine to slip through. As soon as she was on the other side, Michael enveloped her in a tight hug.
