Chapter 60: The Conservatory
“Dress me,” Giselle commanded.
If Henry Jefferson insisted on treating her as his canary, she might as well play the part perfectly.
After all, for someone of Henry’s capabilities, conception was seemingly effortless.
Once she bore him a child, she would be free to leave.
After breakfast, Giselle wished to wander the Laroc Estate and soak up some sun, but was halted at the door by Sophie.
“Miss Lamber, Mr. Jefferson has ordered that you are not to leave the villa for the time being.” Sophie said with a hint of regret.
Giselle wanted to protest, but merely pressed her lips together, nodded, and retreated to her room.
It was, after all, an order from Henry, and she saw no point in challenging a butler over it.
In the living room, a hit variety show blared from the TV. Giselle deliberately turned up the volume; the laughter of the guests echoed through the villa, enhancing her sense of isolation.
Noticing her subdued mood, Sophie, while mopping, mentioned, “Miss Lamber, Mr. Jeffe
