Chapter 8 Emily's POV

Emily's POV The black wolf glared at me and approached me one step at a time. My heart was beating so fast. I quickly put up a defensive stance. "Don't come any closer!" At this moment, my wolf told me, "It's Owen. He's really handsome and charming!" Nina fangirling over Owen? I shook my head helplessly. This was the first time I saw Owen's wolf. I looked at it carefully. It had jet black fur and a pair of cyan eyes. It looked very stern and fierce. But why did he suddenly show up in wolf form? I heard Blake from outside the door. "Emily, what happened?" I thought quickly and replied, "Nothing much. It's just a mouse." Blake said disdainfully, "Why are you screaming at a mouse? You're such a scaredy cat." I didn't say anything else. Instead, I looked back at Owen. The rain had turned a luscious coat of fur into a drenched mess. I was going to look for a dry towel in the bathroom, but when I returned, I saw Owen had reverted to human form. He was lying on the floor entirely nude and extremely dashing. At the same time, I noticed he appeared to be injured on his leg. It was as if a chunk of his leg had been torn off by the fangs of a beast. A very tragic wound indeed. It wasn't just his leg, but also his back and arms had reddish claw marks all over the place. While werewolves could heal themselves quickly, sometimes they needed more time to recover from very serious injuries. Owen may be a playboy, but he wasn't a bad person. I couldn't watch and do nothing to my savior. I immediately went to my drawer to retrieve a first aid kit and tended to his wounds. After that, I turned on some music and helped him into the bathroom. I said, "I'm going to apply some ointment on your body. If it really hurts, just shout. The soundproofing is really good here." Owen had just woken up. He looked at me and said in a relaxed tone, "Don't worry. I won't be discovered by your fiancé. After all, we're secret lovers." He still had the energy to make a mockery out of me in the midst of being badly injured. But since he was a patient now, I decided against arguing with him. The first thing to do was clean his wounds. The wound on his leg was so deep that I could see the bones through his flesh. I applied some medicine to stop the bleeding and speed up the healing process. I thought the leg wound was the most eye-catching. But I didn't expect his chest wound to be the most serious one. Half of a broken serrated sword blade was left embedded in this wound. The blade was unusual in that it was upside-down and looked like a hook. Taking it out forcibly would aggravate the wound. Leaving it in would stop the wound from healing and worsen the pain. Owen was the alpha of the Silvermoon Pack. He was stronger and faster than everyone else. Who would hurt him so badly? Owen seemed to have figured out my hesitation. He grinned and said, "Take it out. I won't die." His gaze was very different from his usual self, bearing an emotion I couldn't comprehend. I looked at the position of the wound and thought about extracting the blade. It would take a lot of effort just to lift a small part of the blade out. After going through my options, I finally decided on using some string and tying across both sides of the sword. I would then pull the string towards me with all my strength. When everything was ready, I said, "I'm going to start pulling on the string." "Alright," Owen said. As soon as I exerted a little strength, I noticed Owen tense up as blue veins popped out on his forehead. It seemed to be really agonizing. I hesitated and stopped. Just then, Blake's voice reappeared from beyond the door. "Emily, where's my coat…?" I replied nervously, "On the left side of the wardrobe in your room." At the same time, Owen grabbed my hand and used all his strength to help me in pulling the blade out. Since it was serrated, the blade was dragging along his flesh and blood with it. I was getting so nervous at the gruesome sight that I almost ran out of breath. Soon, the blade was completely pulled out, leaving behind a pool of blood around Owen's body. Blake went on from outside the door, "You don't have to cook breakfast for me tomorrow. I won't be coming back." "Alright!" My voice was shaky. I didn't dare to speak too much. Fortunately, Blake didn't question my unusual behavior. I was relieved to hear the sound of a door closing: he had just left. I looked at Owen, who could barely move, and asked, "Does it hurt?" Frankly, I didn't know what else to say other than this meaningless question. Owen suddenly stepped forward and kissed me. It wasn't a domineering kiss like last time but a tender one. About a dozen seconds later, he let go of my lips. "It doesn't." His forehead was lined with sweat, and his body was shivering slightly. It must be very painful, but he insisted that he wasn't in pain at all. What a stubborn man! Perhaps it was a necessary form of cultivation for an alpha? My father was a businessman back when he was still alive. Although it was different from being an alpha, he also bore just as many responsibilities as one. No matter how much he toiled through, he would never complain. It seemed that as long as he was around, everything would be fine. I looked at Owen's wounds and thought of my father. I had nothing but sympathy for Owen's plight. But it didn't last long when he said at the next second, "Aren't you satisfied from love? Why did your fiancé just dump you?" Apparently, he had read my social media update. He sounded like he was being sarcastic gloating. I held the medicine in my hand and dabbed a cotton ball of it hard against his wound. He frowned and shouted, "Be gentle! Are you going to murder your lover?!"
