Chapter 9
After this incident in the morning, Abbott was worried that Rita would act alone, so he personally escorted her to the hospital.
Rita sensed his unease and reassured him, "Laurel seems to be in good health now. She won't need my blood anymore. Don't worry."
Her words seemed to poke at Abbott's sore spot. He almost roared, "How dare she! I'll chop her up!"
Rita couldn't help but smile.
Abbott acknowledged that he overreacted and said, "You know how Nelson operates. It's better to be cautious. I'll bring you the results of Grandma's tests records later. You can head back home now."
This was the safest.
However, Rita refused. "You can help me with other things, but I have to do this on my own."
Abbott couldn't understand how much her grandmother meant to her.
When her grandmother was alive, she showered Rita with unconditional love. Even on her deathbed, she was still worried about her. The union between Rita and Nelson was her grandmother's wish entrusted to the Wallis family. Her grandmother feared that after her passing, Rita wouldn't be able to live on her own.
However, her grandmother did not expect that her protection of her beloved granddaughter would eventually be destroyed by Nelson and end up like this.
......
In the end, Rita went to the hospital with Abbott.
When they arrived, the head of the department informed them, "I apologize, but the approval for this matter must come from our director - Mr. Nelson Wallis."
Rita frowned.
The director?
She clearly remembered that this hospital had nothing to do with the Wallis family when her grandmother was admitted here. But now, the director was Nelson Wallis?
Rita didn't even know how she got out of the hospital.
Abbott noticed that Rita looked unwell and suggested, "Maybe you should take a break from New Clamport for a while."
Rita shook her head, "Do you think there's something odd about this whole thing too?"
Nelson also knew how important Grandma was to her.
In less than half a month after that case, her grandmother passed away abnormally.
Rita returned to investigate the truth but learned that the hospital where her grandmother passed away was now under Nelson's ownership.
She's trying to connect the dots while...
Abbott also frowned. "If this has something to do with Nelson..."
But his phone interrupted his sentence.
Rita didn't know what the other party said, but Abbott's expression changed and his words became hurried. "I know. I'll be there right now."
Abbott hung up the phone and said, "I have an urgent matter at the company. You go home and wait for me."
He handed her his car key before taking a taxi to the company.
Rita, however, had other plans. She drove straight to Nelson's company.
The news of her return had already spread throughout the company. So the employees were not surprised but curious when she showed up.
Ignoring the looks, Rita went straight to the president's office.
When Ken noticed Rita, he quickly approached her and asked, "Ms. Esther, what brings you here?"
"Just tell him that I'm here to see him."
Ken said, "Please wait a moment."
He turned and went into the office. After a while, he came out, followed by Laurel.
Laurel had obviously been crying, as her eyes were red and puffy.
As she stormed past Rita, she shot her a look of pure resentment. "I don't know what you're so proud about!"
The way she talked made it seem like Rita was to blame for all her problems.
"Don't worry about it," Rita chuckled, "I wouldn't expect someone with your IQ to get it anyway."
