Chapter 10

Rita's natural smile was so captivating that she outshined those heavily made-up actresses on the screen. Several assistants were stationed at the president's office entrance to attend to Nelson's needs promptly. Rita's presence at the door immediately caught the attention of these assistants; after all, who could resist the charm of a beauty's smile? Someone could. Laurel felt a surge of anger rising in her as she looked at Rita's smiling face. But with so many people around, she couldn't act on it. She gritted her teeth and left. Rita entered the office. Nelson was surprised to see her again so soon after they had just parted on bad terms. "What's the matter?" He asked with a slight frown. Rita smiled sarcastically. "Did I interrupt you two?" "Laurel and I..." Nelson started to explain, but Rita cut him off. "I came here to ask you something." Rita didn't care about what happened between Laurel and Nelson; whether she was his unforgettable first love or new flame. All she knew was that he was once willing to kill her and her child for the sake of Laurel. Thus, she had no interest in hearing any explanations from him. Observing her indifferent expression, Nelson grew irritated. Today's interaction made him realize that Rita had changed; she was no longer the meek and obedient woman she used to be. Though she now appeared cold and heartless, she was also undeniably alluring. "What do you want?" Nelson's tone was brusque. "Are you the dean of New Clamport Hospital now?" Nelson admitted it. "Yes." Rita then asked, "So it was you who deliberately leaked the news of my grandmother's death to my grandfather?" Nelson was bewildered. "Your grandfather?" Since when did she have a grandfather? How much more did he not know about this woman? Last time, he had asked Ken to investigate Rita, but the results only pertained to her work. Abbott was also found because he was engaged in her career. Nelson was still in the dark regarding her life abroad during those years, her contacts, and how she had managed to survive.  Although he wanted to take action, there always seemed to be someone to stop him. At first, he suspected Abbott of playing games behind the scenes, but now that he heard Rita mention her grandfather, could it be that her grandfather was helping her? Seeing Nelson's perplexed expression, Rita had her own answer. It seemed that the news of her grandmother's death was not leaked by him. "It's fine." Since that wasn't the case, there was no need for her to waste her time there. "I'm leaving." However, as soon as she tried to move, she was grabbed by wrist. "I'm letting you go?" Mentally and physically resisting the man's touch, Rita did not conceal the disgust and impatience on her face at all. If Nelson had not exerted too much strength and she could break free, she would have thrown her hand away and slapped him again. "Let go of me!" she grumbled. Instead of releasing her, the man pulled her into his arms. "Are you investigating your grandmother's death?" Rita's struggle immediately stopped. She looked up and glared fiercely at Nelson. "How did you know?" "I own the hospital, so if you go there, I'll find out about it. And just so you know, I'm also looking into your grandmother's death," Nelson explained, running his fingers over her delicate face. "Ha." Rita sneered. Nelson narrowed his eyes. "You don't believe me?" Rita avoided his hand on her face. "Do we trust each other?" Ridiculous. Who had drugged her with sleeping pills every night? Who had taken her blood while she was asleep to treat Laurel Bach? Who gave him the audacity to speak about trust? What a joke! She pushed herself away from him and straightened her clothes. "If Mr. Wallis you're really investigating, did you find anything? You're such a big shot; you must have found some clues, right?" The way Rita addressed him as "Mr. Wallis" was very formal; she was trying to distance herself from him. Nelson's expression darkened. "I'll tell you what I know, but you have to meet my conditions." Rita sneered. "How dare you ask for anything?" "I know you suspect that the death of your grandma has something to do with me, but I really didn't do it. I have a clear conscience," Nelson said, "I am a businessman. If you want my help, you have to promise me something in return." Rita was eager to get information and asked, "What's the condition?" "Divorce Abbott and come back to Wilsey Garden."
