Chapter 8
Rita didn't know how she got out of Nelson's car.
She stood there, feeling the sun's warmth on her skin and her scalp tingling.
Nelson still had something on Abbott. Damn him.
She covered her forehead with her hands, trying to ease her headache.
She was standing on the roadside for who knows how long, when a sports car pulled up in front of her, and out stepped Laurel. Her sunglasses hid half of her face, but when she took them off and smiled at Rita. Rita immediately recognized her.
"Long time no see," Laurel said. "Do you have time to talk?"
Rita: "..."
Talk her ass.
She said in a distant tone, "No."
After that, she turned around and was about to leave.
As Rita took a few steps away, she was stopped in her tracks by Laurel, "You chose to make a big splash yesterday, didn't you? You did it on purpose," Laurel said with conviction.
Yesterday was her big day.
It was the day of her main exhibition, and Nelson had invested a lot of time and effort into it. It was her chance to make it big on the international scene. However, Victoria's debut stole the spotlight from her.
More importantly, Victoria was Rita!
The news about Rita and Laurel had spread like wildfire, making headlines all over the world. It was clear to everyone who the star of the show was and who was just a supporting player.
Laurel couldn't shake the feeling that Rita had been waiting for an opportunity to get revenge on her.
Hearing that Laurel still dared to criticize her, Rita sneered and said, "Yes, you stole so many ideas from me. You DID NOT do it on purpose. You used my work to build your reputation. You DID NOT do it on purpose."
Laurel's face went pale.
Rita was enjoying this, and she even smiled brighter. "If you're so talented, why are you afraid of me? Admit that you're nothing but a thief."
Laurel was so angry that her face twitched.
Rita looked at her disdainfully and turned to leave, but Laurel's voice came from behind. "You never should have come back."
You're just here to take everything that belongs to me!
"Ha." Rita sneered. When she turned around, Abbott's car had already stopped beside her.
"I finally found you," he said, clearly relieved. "Get in the car." Abbott was worried sick when he couldn't connect to Rita. His first reaction was to follow the way she drove usually, and he found her.
Rita turned around and was about to open the door, but she paused and turned back to Laurel, "You said that I never should have come back? I have to come back and take back everything that belongs to me, but..."
She smiled and said, "That man, if you want him, you can have him. He's nothing but trash and waste."
With that, she got in the car and Abbott sped away.
Laurel was left fuming on the side of the road, her hand clenched into a fist with anger, and her long nails dug into her palm.
"Since I was a child, Rita has always been superior to me. Why? That's unfair!"
"Rita Esther, I'll make you wish you were dead!"
......
In the car, Abbott asked, "Why did the phone suddenly off?"
Rita replied, "Nelson took me away."
"What?" Abbott suddenly became alert. "What does he want from you?"
"He's forcing me to divorce you."
Abbott's expression changed as he remembered what Rita had said yesterday to get rid of Nelson.
On other occasions, it could be taken as a joke. But on that occasion yesterday, it was lucky that the media didn't hear what she said. Otherwise, it would really cause a big disaster.
"Can you calm down in front of him?" Abbott said earnestly, "If our relationship is discovered, will you be happy?"
Rita's expression changed as she thought about Abbott's words.
Yesterday she was indeed a little bit impetuous, but now that she was reminded by Abbott, she felt a little scared.
She sighed. "I don't want to either. But as soon as I thought of how he forced me three years ago, I couldn't bear it."
Hearing her mention three years ago, Abbott's face darkened.
They both knew what had happened back then. That was why he had opposed Rita's return.
"It's okay." He freed one of his hands and patted Rita's head. "I'm Here for You."
