Chapter 43: Road Trips of Three days

"It's a three-day long drive, so we'll be stopping periodically to rest. You won't be disturbed, Talia," he said with a smile.
"You can rest assured," he added, but my eyes were not on him. They were on the trees he spoke about. Over the next three days, just as he said, I was not disturbed. Occasionally, I would see clusters of people in small towns, but I wasn't in the mood to ask what they were. He would probably give me an ambiguous answer like "a tribe" or something.
Finally, we breached the smaller towns and moved to the slightly larger ones. It was different from what I had been told. "They are barbarians," my mother said. "They live in huts and run around naked." This was very much different from that. I wish I could tell Mother that that was not what I saw. Concrete buildings. Glass. Architecture that featured mostly arches and even spinning bridges. Strange, I thought to myself as I tried to contain the surprise.
