Chapter 7
Seeing my belongings exposed on the floor made me feel completely vulnerable. Ophelia stood there holding the photo, her voice ice-cold as she asked, "So, you didn't choose the photo because of the few dollars in your wallet?"
I glanced at the crumpled bills on the ground and muttered, "Yeah, the wallet's worth more than a photo. After all, it's just an old, worthless piece of paper."
Only I knew how much it hurt to say those words. I could not bear to imagine the disappointment she must have felt hearing them.
Sure enough, Ophelia's expression darkened with anger and disappointment. "So, you're still all about the money. In that case, you don't need this photo anymore!"
With that, she tore the photo into pieces and threw them in my face. As I watched our only connection being shredded before my eyes, my heart shattered along with it.
It was just a photo to her, but to me, it was the last bit of memory I had left.
