Ophelia's words struck me like a lightning bolt, and I knew there was no easy escape from this situation. Based on her demeanor, she would not let me off easily now that she had me cornered.
I looked up at the person standing before me, and for a moment, I almost did not recognize her. The Ophelia I remembered was pure and kind, someone who would be upset over an injured animal for days.
Yet she had become so confrontational and aggressive.
I wondered what kind of deep pain could have caused her to harbor such hatred. As these thoughts crossed my mind, I could not help but feel guilty. I almost sensed her despair when she first saw that text message—like someone trapped in darkness with no one to reach out to.
She held my wallet in her left hand and the photo in her right. "Want these back? Well, you're only getting one back—either the photo or the wallet. Choose!"
