574: FACING FURY
ARIEL'S POV
Through the dense foliage, a man materialized, his presence abrupt and foreboding, as if he had emerged from the shadows themselves. His shirt, a shade of black so deep it seemed to drink in the scant light that managed to filter through the surrounding trees, clung to his broad shoulders, hinting at the coiled strength that lay beneath.
His face, carved by the hand of a harsh life, was a study in stony impassivity.
The man continued his slow, measured advance towards Harriet, his presence radiating danger with every deliberate step. The glint of metal in his hands, the pistol held with a casual, almost languid grip, only served to heighten the tension that hung in the air like a noxious gas.
I fought the urge to cower, to shrink away from the palpable threat that seemed to permeate the very air around us. But even as my heart thundered in my chest, I steeled myself, knowing that a single misstep could spell disaster.
