Chapter 9
LOGAN
“Mum, why don’t I take Amy upstairs, we’ve had a long day and some rest will be appreciated,” I said while they separated from their embrace.
“Of course,” she beamed.
“Come on, Amy.” I cocked my head to the side while she followed me inside. As the guards pushed the twin doors open, the ridiculously large living room welcomed us with its bright lights perfectly complimenting the spotless white walls. Amy’s pace slowed, looking around in wonder. At the center, was a glass center table surrounded with four black couches. The dining room was at the far end just below the gigantic staircase, I wondered when dinner would be ready. Amy and I threaded up the stairs and across the hallway decorated with several paintings across the walls till we arrived at my room.
I inhaled deeply before turning the door knob. I clapped my hands twice and the golden lights illuminated the room.
“This is my room. You’ll be staying here henceforth,” I said while she frowned.
“Your room,” she pointed out skeptically.
I gave the room a quick look again, the curtains opposite the door were parted revealing the glass wall displaying a clear view of a portion of my Pack; no doubt, she should love the view. The white king size bed at the center was more than enough to house two people and paintings hanging around the wall were a perfect touch. Many would kill to have a room like this.
“You don’t like it?” I queried.
“It’s okay but...” she answered and I gently scratched my right eyebrow. “I can’t stay here.”
“I believe this room is spacious enough or do you want a bigger room?”
“That’s not it, I just can’t share the same bed with you. You’re my mate but I’m not ready to cross that line.”
I scoffed but her stern look remained regardless.
“You think I’m going to touch you?”
“I’m not implying that, but we both know how much influence the bond has on us when we’re closer.”
“You think too little of me, Amy,” I wriggled my head as I headed to the side drawer to pick the curtain remote.
“You’re staying in my room and that’s final,” I mumbled while I clicked the remote in the curtain’s direction.
“You have to respect my wishes, Logan,” she crossed her arms against her chest while the curtains slowly closed.
“You are my Luna, it is customary that we share the same room. I don’t want my workers to start spreading gossip when they find out we’re sleeping in separate rooms. And I certainly don’t want to raise questions from my mother.”
Her skepticisms were still painted all over her face. “Fine, I’ll sleep on the couch,” she pointed to the black couch at the corner of the room.
“I’ll sleep on the couch and you get the bed,” I stated.
“I’m fine with the couch—“
“No debates,” I cut her off abruptly. She was about to argue when a knock graced our door.
“Come in,” I said and a maid entered.
“Alpha, Luna, dinner is ready,” she said courteously.
“We’ll be downstairs shortly,” I answered and she nodded before leaving.
“The bathroom’s over there, take a shower and come downstairs for dinner.” I pointed to the other door at a corner.
“I don’t have night wear.”
“Just take any of my clothes in the wardrobe, tomorrow we’ll sort that out,” I mumbled whilst heading to the door.
“I don’t think I’ll be joining you downstairs.”
I froze at the door knob. “Why?” I glanced at her, she sighed and I knew better what that meant.
“I know you’ve had an awful day and you need your space, but you need your strength.”
“I’m fine Logan, I just don’t have appetite for anything.” She flashed a smile I easily saw through. “Please.”
I nodded slightly before easing out. I headed downstairs where Oliver and my mother were busy eating and chirping.
“Where’s Amy?” my mother asked as I pulled one of the seats.
“She won’t be joining us, she’s okay,” I said while the maid served my plate with mac and cheese with grilled beef.
My mother dropped her cutlery, “are you sure everything’s fine?”
“Of course,” I shot them a smile before eating. Both of them still peered at me but I chose to ignore.
“Well, I should take my leave now,” Oliver mumbled before cleaning his mouth with his napkin. “There are lots of tasks I have to deal with.”
“Tasks?” I queried and he hummed as he stood.
“We finally have a Luna after so many years, of course there’ll be celebrations to host tomorrow,” he said with a proud smile.
“Oliver come on, you know what she’s been through. I don’t think now’s the right time.“
“Nope!” He waved his right index finger. “The pack is excited, I can’t just kill their mood. Besides, I’m sure it would lift her spirits up too.”
“Oliver—“
“That’s a splendid idea Oliver, make sure the preparations are top notch,” my mother interjected.
“Of course, Mrs. Wilson!” he chirped as he left the table.
“Say hi to Sarah and the kids for me,” she beamed while I frowned at her.
“What?”
“Mom, she’s grieving! She doesn’t need all this elaborate stuff for now.” I dropped my cutlery while she picked hers.
“She needs you,” she mumbled softly. “You are her mate and you’re the only one who can help ease her through her pain.”
I sighed and then took a sip of my juice.
“You should be with her and not here.”
“She needs her space.”
“You have a curse to break, remember? You should be focusing on getting her to love you!”
“I know! But it’s not easy, Mom.” I leaned my back against the chair as pain burned in my chest. “Charlotte was the only person I ever truly loved and it feels so terrifying that I have to give my heart out to someone else.”
“It’s been over a decade since Charlotte died, my love. It is time you move on,” she intoned worriedly.
Tears almost blurred my vision but I quickly wiped it off. After my father, she was the only person that could force these tears out.
“This is a sign from the moon goddess for you to move on, Logan. Amy is your future.”
I sighed. “You’re right, to be free from this curse, Amy has to love me. That should be easy, my charms won’t take long in winning her over.”
She smiled sadly. “Don’t you like her?”
“The mate bond might be influencing me whenever I’m with her but in truth, I don’t. Charlotte was strong, maybe not as beautiful as Amy but she was everything I’d wanted,” I pursed my lips as her worried look became more glaring but I couldn’t hide the truth from her after all.
“Amy, she’s not those things. She’s weak and something about her is off. The only reason I accepted her as my mate is to break my curse. Once it’s broken, we’re done.”
