Chapter 8
AMY
“Oliver, Silvia, I want you to meet my mate, officially. Amy Lockwood.” Logan gestured towards me as we entered the small living room. Both of them left their couches to meet me.
“I’m Oliver,” said the redhead with a grin. “Logan’s Beta. It is my utmost pleasure to meet the Alpha’s Luna.” He offered his right hand for a handshake and I nervously took it.
“I must really say, the moon goddess holds the Alpha in high regards to have blessed him with a beautiful lady like you,” Silvia added softly with a tiny smile. I couldn’t help but smile back before exchanging a brief hug. “I’m honored to meet you, Luna.”
“I’d love it if you two can drop the whole title thing, Amy is fine,” I said. “I should be thanking you, Silvia, for saving me.”
“You should thank the Alpha instead. If he hadn’t given you his blood for your healing to speed up, I fear you would have been in a precarious state.”
I glanced at Logan, who acted like Silvia hadn’t just given him all the credit.
“Oh yeah, you should have seen how terrified he was,” Oliver teased and Silvia laughed.
“That’s enough,” Logan cut them off sternly and I chuckled at his flustered look. He stared at me briefly before clearing his throat. “Anyway, we’re leaving.”
“So soon? I thought you would stay over for dinner,” Silva replied.
“Another time, Silvia. I must thank you once again. I’m in your debt,” he replied.
“Anything for you, Alpha.” She beamed.
“Alright, shall we?” He glanced at me and we threaded outside where five black SUV’s were parked and guards dressed in black suits poised at different locations surrounding the building.
“We’re leaving,” Oliver announced.
“Yes, sir!” the guards chorused while two of them quickly opened the rear doors for us.
“You seem to be quite influential,” I commented by his side.
“I’m the Alpha King, Amy. What do you expect?” he smirked and I frowned wondering if I should be impressed with that statement. I mean, what was so special about being the Alpha King?
I sat on the right side while he took the left. Oliver, on the other hand, boarded one of the other vehicles.
“How far is your pack?” I asked.
“A few hours and we should be there,” he answered. “Music?”
“No, thank you.” Barely minutes into the drive, and Logan was already asleep. I leaned my head against the glass, thinking about my day’s ordeal. Tears started to itch my eyes as Clara’s face flashed before me. She had always been there for me and when she needed the most, I'd failed her. I hit my chest gently hoping the heavy pain would subside. I didn’t even want to try to sleep, I was scared of having another nightmare. My breaths started to tour out heavy, even though the air was well conditioned.
“I’m sorry about your mother,” Logan quietly said and I gasped seeing he was awake. His eyes were holding mine; I found it hard to waver from there. For the first time, I saw compassion in those eyes and in a way it relieved me.
“If I tell you I know the right words to say to comfort you, I’m lying. When I lost my father, no amount of words could make me feel better. I blamed myself.” He smiled sadly. “I carried that guilt for years.”
“Did you get over it?” I asked almost in a whisper.
He sighed. “I brought myself to accept the harsh reality of life. What’s meant to be will be no matter how hard we try.”
Tears poured down my cheeks. “If I wasn’t so weak, maybe.“
He came closer till our hips touched and then he pulled me in for a hug. “It’s okay to let the tears all out,” he whispered. I didn’t know why but I curled my arm around his waist so tight while I cried on his shirt. It had been a long while since I last found comfort in an embrace. But Logan? He had it so easily. His warmth was as welcoming as my mother’s.
“We’ve arrived at our pack, Alpha.” The driver’s voice jolted me awake and only then did I realize I had dozed off in his embrace. I slowly pulled away from him while he cleared his throat.
“Welcome to Silver Crescent, Amy,” he said while I stared out the window. My eyes widened in awe at the magnificent houses we drove by. There were little kids playing in the playgrounds with their parents. Some of them had transformed into their wolf form enjoying the night walk across the fields. The tarred road was accompanied with golden lights anchored on the tall trees by the roadside. The pack was basically like Lilyview surrounded by forest but it was very beautiful unlike any I’d ever seen. As the vehicle arrived at the pack house, my jaw almost dropped. The compound was ridiculously large, with a massive water fountain at its center encircled by an array of vehicles.
The vehicle came to a gentle halt in front of the building. My heart started to thump like it would explode. One of the guards came to open my door and, as I alighted, the cold air welcomed me with the scent of jasmine from the garden. My lips parted slightly in amusement at the mighty white mansion before me. Now I finally understood what it meant to be called the Alpha King. This pack didn’t fail in telling me how much affluence, beauty, and power it had.
“Welcome to my home, Amy,” he said softly by my side. The twin doors opened and a middle aged woman with dark hair, dressed elegantly in a silver gown, came down the stairs alongside six maids dressed in black.
“Welcome back, Alpha Logan!” The maids chirped graciously while the old woman approached us.
“Mother.” Logan grinned as they hugged.
“Oh, my dear boy,” her silky voice intoned as she patted his back, “welcome home.”
A smile crept to my lips while they separated.
“I want you to meet—“
“Amy!” She beamed at me while Logan grunted.
“It seems Oliver has spilled the beans.” He glared at Oliver, who just alighted from his vehicle.
Her golden eyes gleamed with so much love; now I knew where the Alpha got his enchanting eyes from. “My goodness, after so many years, our lost Luna is finally here.” The old woman smiled deeply while she held my cheek dearly. “How are you, my darling? Oliver told me everything.”
“I’m—” I stuttered trying to hold back my tears.
“Oh, child, come here.” She extended her arms for a hug and I glued to her instantly. “You’re home now, love. You’re home,” she whispered as she patted my back.
The winds blew again and my body stiffened. My wolf was scared. It wasn’t the same fear I had felt at the fair— it was worse, and awfully familiar.
