Chapter 10 She Is Now His Wife

Emily's face turned green with anger as she thought, ‘A whole box of sugar? Are they trying to choke me to death? They actually made such horrible food for me!’ Her clear eyes narrowed slightly, her expression turning stern, "Moira, right? Since you can't handle what's expected of you, then don't bother anymore! From now on, you are no longer a maid at The Hall. You're fired!" Although she and Ethan had a contractual marriage, she was legitimately his wife. There was no way that she would let a maid walk all over her. Even if she wasn't Ethan’s wife, she wouldn't tolerate being bullied like this. If such a maid remained in The Hall, Emily would appear worse off than a mere servant and not have any power. "Why?" Moira protested indignantly, "Why do you have the right to fire me? I was sent by Mr. Aldrich to take care of Mr. Thomas. If you want to dismiss me, you need Mr. Thomas and Mr. Aldrich's consent!" Emily calmly looked at her, "Firstly, you are currently employed at The Hall, so your employer is not Mr. Aldrich but Ethan. And I, as Ethan's lawful wife, have the right to dismiss you." Moira became anxious and retorted, "Don't think I don't know. Mr. Thomas only agreed to marry you because Miss Hines stood him up. We heard all about your affair with Mr. Thomas from Byron. Therefore, you mean nothing to Mr. Thomas. You're just a pawn he arranged to deal with Mr. Aldrich! You have no right to dismiss me!" "Oh," Emily responded lightly, smiling, "I recorded your speech. Should I call Ethan and let him hear your speech?" Moira's face immediately changed color, and she dropped to the ground with a bang. What Ethan hated most was gossip of his private affairs. Moreover, nothing that happened in The Hall was allowed to be disclosed, not even to Aldrich. If Ethan heard this recording, Moira would definitely have lost her job. If she angered Ethan, even if she complained to Aldrich, she wouldn't have a chance to stay. "Don't!" Moira crawled to Emily, grabbed her ankle, tremblingly begging for mercy, "Mrs. Thomas, I was wrong! I shouldn't have let my mother make cereal for you, I shouldn't have put so much sugar in it. Please forgive me this time, I will serve you wholeheartedly in the future." Moira hated Emily to the extreme, but now she could only beg for mercy. She had to keep this job. She couldn't afford to be fired. At this moment, Rosalind heard the commotion and rushed over. She was shocked to see Hazel and Moira both kneeling on the ground. "What's going on?" Rosalind hurriedly asked. Moira immediately played the victim, "Rosalind, please help me! This morning, Hazel and I prepared cereal for Mrs. Thomas, and it upset her. Now Mrs. Thomas wants to fire us. We've been serving Mr. Thomas for many years, even if we haven't done much, we've worked hard..." Moira hoped Rosalind could help her, as Rosalind was the housekeeper of The Hall and even the wet nurse of Ethan. She was the one closest to Ethan in The Hall. Rosalind looked embarrassed. She turned to Emily, pursed her lips, and advised, "Mrs. Thomas, Hazel and Moira..." "Rosalind, hold on," Emily interrupted, looking at Moira, who was crying pitifully. She found it ironic. Moira seemed to have learned nothing at all. "I don't mind the cereal, but Moira added a whole box of sugar to it. As Mr. Thomas's wife, Moira's mockery of me is also a mockery of Mr. Thomas. Can The Hall continue to employ such a maid?" Emily sneered. Rosalind's face immediately turned pale upon hearing this. She glared fiercely at Moira and rebuked, "Moira, is what Mrs. Thomas said true?" Moira trembled in fear, shaking her head vigorously, "No, no, I didn't do that, I didn't..." "Rosalind, the cereal is still in the bowl. If you don't believe me, taste it yourself," Emily calmly interjected. Just as Rosalind was about to step forward, a deep male voice sounded from the doorway, "Let me taste." Emily turned her head in surprise, her clear eyes widening after she realized that it was Ethan. She thought, ‘Isn't he supposed to be at the company? Why did he suddenly return?’ Before she could recover from her shock, Ethan had already wheeled himself to the kitchen counter and tasted the cereal. His expression remained unchanged. It was the same cold and indifferent demeanor. Emily's heart skipped a beat. She thought, ‘Could it be that Moira had secretly switched the bowls, hence her boldness earlier? If that were true, I would have no evidence…’ “Crash!” Suddenly, a loud crash interrupted her thoughts. It was the sound of the bowl shattering on the floor, scattering the cereal like vomit. Ethan's face seemed to darken completely, his features clouded over like the eve of a storm. It was terrifying and chilling, with a powerful presence. Emily couldn't discern whom his anger was directed at. Meanwhile, Moira and Hazel were already dumbstruck, both staring blankly as if awaiting their final judgment. Rosalind hurriedly crouched down, picked up a piece of cereal, and licked it. Her facial features immediately twisted in disgust. “How dare you bully my wife?" Ethan’s enraged voice suddenly erupted. Moira and Hazel were scared out of their wits, both collapsing on the ground. Even their pleas for mercy seemed to lack strength. "Get out!" Ethan's voice was cold and severe. Moira and Hazel dared not say another word. Kicking them out was already the best outcome after they had angered Ethan. They immediately scrambled away in terror. Rosalind crouched down to clean up the mess and the shards of porcelain. Seeing this, Emily also crouched down to help. "Emily." At that moment, Ethan called her name. Emily looked up at Ethan sitting in the wheelchair and suddenly found him not as detestable as before. "Mr. Thomas, thank you for that," she thanked him with a smile. She hadn't expected that Ethan would also protect her. But then again, he should protect her because she was now his wife. If the servants bullied her, it was as if they were bullying him. "Hurry up and change your clothes," Ethan said coldly, staring at her, "Aldrich wants to see you now. Let's go to the Thomas Mansion together." "So soon? Isn't the family banquet scheduled for the evening?" Emily asked in surprise. She had planned to visit the hospital during the day. "It's been changed to noon. Get yourself ready properly and don't disgrace me," Ethan ordered sternly. Rosalind took over the broken pieces from her hand and advised, "Mrs. Thomas, you go ahead. I'll take care of things here." Emily nodded and quickly went upstairs. Back in her room, she quickly freshened up, changed into the white dress she bought yesterday, and hurried back downstairs. "Mr. Thomas, I'm ready," she said as she approached him and stopped. Ethan was still looking down at some documents. When he lifted his head, there was a momentary pause in his gaze.
