Chapter 9 Ethan’s Dignity

"Seduce you? Mr. Thomas, are you kidding?" Emily's eyes involuntarily glanced downward. She blinked with a pair of innocent yet cunning almond-shaped eyes, lightly curling her lips. "I remember before we got our marriage certificate today, you said you couldn't perform sexually. So, trying to seduce you will be useless, right?" Ethan's large hand wrapped around her waist, his hoarse voice ringing in her ear, "If you don't try, how do you know it won't work?" "Mr. Thomas, this is about your dignity. Most men who can't perform would still claim they can," Emily said casually, propping herself on his chest with her delicate hands, as if using him as a cushion to stand up. Ethan's handsome brows furrowed tightly, his sharp ink-black eyes staring directly at her, coldly chuckling, "Don't regret it." Emily stood beside the bed, looking down at him as if she had become the master. She smiled and said, "Mr. Thomas, I don't mind living a widow's life, so there's no need for you to force yourself. We don't need to worry about saving face between us. Good night, and sweet dreams." With that, Emily turned around and swiftly ran back to her own room. Closing the door behind her, she leaned her back against it, nervously taking a few deep breaths. She thought, ‘Wedding night? Is Ethan a pervert?’ However, upon reflection, when she helped Ethan get up from the wheelchair, she accidentally kicked the wheelchair, causing Ethan to lose his balance. At that moment, Ethan really couldn't stand steady, so both of them fell onto the bed. It was evident that he really was crippled. To put it nicely, he was crippled. However, harshly speaking, he had a single-leg disability. At the end of the day, he was still disabled. Thinking of this, Emily sneered and felt sorry for him. At this moment, in the room next door, Ethan got out of bed and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window with his long legs. He lit a cigarette, the smoke curling, his brows furrowed, thinking of the young woman who had just escaped. She was sometimes weak and sometimes cunning. He didn't know which was her true face. However, there was no hurry. Since they were already married, the day would come when her true colors would be revealed. Nevertheless, Ethan was sure that Emily was at least more likable than Harper. ***** The next day, Emily slept in. She leisurely got up, washed up, and went downstairs, only to find out that Ethan had already gone to the company long ago. She knew about his business because he was the largest investor in her pharmaceutical company. Ethan's career was built by himself, without the help of the Thomas family. In fact, she used to admire Ethan. It was just that she didn't expect Ethan to be like other men, clearly crippled but still insisting on proving himself, and even talking about having sex with her. Emily felt disgusted while recalling the scene from last night and thought that Ethan was very shameless. "Mrs. Thomas, here's your breakfast." The maid brought over a bowl of cereal. Emily glanced at it and found out that it was a bowl of plain cereal. She thought, ‘Why is the food here so simple? It is not even as good as what I ate in prison!’ However, she owed it to Alexander and Matt Macy for taking care of her during that time. "Thank you." Emily didn't mind the cereal. After all, as long as she had food and drink under Ethan’s roof, it was fine. However, when she took a small bite with a spoon, she immediately spat it out. "Why is it so sweet?" Her face turned pale, her whole facial features twisted together. This cereal seemed to have a bag of sugar in it. The maid sneered and chuckled, "Mrs. Thomas, it seems like you prefer lighter flavors. Let me make you a new one." Emily thought, ‘Light flavor? Is that the reason? There's clearly an excessive amount of sugar in this bowl! Why is Ethan’s maid so incompetent? She can’t even get a bowl of cereal right.’ Emily gritted her teeth, suppressing her anger rather than exploding. She calmly replied, "Alright, thank you." The maid glanced at her and then returned to the kitchen with the bowl. She grabbed the cook and burst into laughter, "Hazel, you did a great job! The look on Emily's face after one bite was like she'd eaten crap..." "Moira, are you sure this is okay? What if Mrs. Thomas blames us and complains to Mr. Ethan?" Hazel Kirk timidly asked. Moira Kirk pursed her lips and said, "She's just an ex-convict. She ate pig feed in prison. She didn't even get mad after tasting such sweet cereal, showing she's easy to fool! Besides, Mr. Ethan married her just to please Mr. Aldrich. We're here to take care of Mr. Thomas. He won't fire me over this woman!" Hazel visibly relaxed upon hearing Moira's assurance, "Okay then. I'll make another bowl to fool her. Making cereal is convenient, and it'll be less work for me." Sighing, Moira muttered, "If only I'd volunteered from the start, then I would've been Mr. Thomas's wife since Mr. Thomas is willing to marry even a female prisoner. I'm much prettier than that ugly woman, Emily! And I don't have a criminal record!" As Moira ranted, she turned and suddenly saw Emily standing at the kitchen door. "Mrs. Thomas!" Moira screamed, quickly covering her mouth. Emily had only come for a glass of water but unintentionally heard their entire conversation. She frowned and walked slowly toward them. Moira and Hazel exchanged glances, both showing panic. "Mrs. Thomas, did you... hear anything?" Moira asked nervously. Emily sneered, "I'm not deaf, so of course, I heard everything." Moira screamed again, her legs trembling as she stumbled back a few steps. Hazel, struggling to support herself on the sink, tried not to collapse on the floor. Seeing their reactions, Emily realized they were no threats and could only scheme behind others' backs. "Mrs. Thomas, please don't tell Mr. Thomas about this. Otherwise, we'll be in big trouble, please..." Hazel rushed over, grabbing Emily's arm and pleading desperately. "It was all Moira's idea to add so much sugar. It really has nothing to do with me. Please spare me, Mrs. Thomas. I'll make sure to prepare plenty of delicious food for you every day!" Moira, seeing Hazel's betrayal, gritted her teeth and pointed at her, "Hazel, you're despicable! You actually sold me out!" Hazel sighed, rubbing her forehead in exasperation. "How did I sell you out? Mrs. Thomas heard everything we said. How could I sell you out? It was your idea to have me make the cereal for Mrs. Thomas, and you were the one who added a whole box of sugar!"
