Chapter 2: Marrying You

Casper shrugged, "Sure." Beverly looked at Casper steadily, "I want you to marry me!" Casper's light green eyes flickered with amusement as he gazed at Beverly without blinking, "Are you out of your mind? Are you sober? I remember you never liked me since we were kids. Marrying someone like me, you'll probably regret it." After her impulsive declaration, Beverly felt a bit embarrassed. She had never imagined that she would one day utter the word "marriage" to her lifelong nemesis. But the words were already out, and now, retracting them would only make her feel more awkward. Facing Casper's teasing gaze, Beverly met his eyes, "Since the words are spoken, there's no reason for regret. I'm very sober. But since you're compensating me, I have a few small requests, not too much, right? Of course, I won't let you lose out. It's a win-win situation." Casper's lips curled into a faint smile, showing interest, "Alright! I'd like to see what kind of mutually beneficial marriage the heiress of the Cape family can offer me." After finalizing the details of their engagement, Nicole and Mr. and Mrs. Cape returned. Casper stood up gracefully, tidied his clothes, and bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Cape with elegance. Once outside the hospital room, his assistant David immediately approached, "Boss, you have a transnational meeting at three this afternoon. Should we leave now?" David asked, thinking that many things had been delayed in the past few days because of Beverly's situation, and now it was time to get back on track. To his surprise, Casper's eyes showed a hint of amusement, and he said nonchAllently, "Let the CEO attend in my place. I'm getting married, so I need to go home and report." David's hand holding the notebook trembled slightly, looking at Casper in disbelief, "What did you say? Getting married? With whom?" Casper raised an eyebrow slightly, his gaze sweeping towards the hospital room where Beverly was, "What do you think?" David widened his eyes. Casper was going to marry Beverly? David pinched his arm, feeling the pain, "Am I dreaming?" This was big news! Everyone in Texas knew about the longstanding feud between Beverly, the heiress of the Cape family, and Casper, the eldest son of the Butte family. David thought Casper might have been threatened to marry Beverly because of the accident, but looking at Casper's departing figure, he couldn't tell any anger from being forced! But then again, Casper had always focused on his career. For his future partner, he probably would only consider the path of a family alliance. Who it was didn't matter; what mattered was the interests of the families. The Cape family was behind Beverly, and considering that both families would benefit from the union, a marriage between them made sense. David silently admired his boss's thoughtful decision. He immediately followed up, asking firmly, "Boss, what should I do?" This was an important moment, and he needed to perform well. Casper got into the back seat of the car without hesitation and said lightly, "Go to the Lebosaire Manor. Buy it as soon as possible and start the process for the new house. Plan the wedding procedures." David nodded repeatedly, carefully noting everything in his notebook. The marriage between the Butte family and the Cape family had to be grand. Especially after the embarrassment of the Medici wedding, it couldn't be smaller in scale; otherwise, it would be a loss of face. While Casper was busy with wedding preparations, Beverly's eyes flashed with coldness as she looked at Allen, who had barged into the room. Nicole angrily drove Allen away, "Allen, what are you doing here now? Get out, go comfort Lucy who's weak and can't take care of herself, the one you ran to at our wedding!" Allen didn't argue with Nicole, he just kept staring at Beverly. He knew Beverly loved him, too much. So he believed Beverly would defend him like she always did, in front of family and friends. He knew Beverly was always soft-hearted and would never blame him. She would forgive him for running away at the wedding as long as he admitted his mistake and treated her well in the future. It had always been like this, so Allen was sure Beverly would speak up to keep him from leaving. She loved him, didn't she? But this time, Beverly just stared at him without saying a word. Mrs. Cape, angry, blocked Allen's view of Beverly, afraid that her daughter would forgive Allen for hurting her again. Mr. Cape, understanding the situation, stepped forward and punched Allen, making him stagger. Allen didn't resist, but his gaze remained stubbornly fixed on Beverly's direction. He didn't believe Beverly wouldn't speak up to defend him. She loved him, didn't she? But Beverly just turned her gaze to the window on the other side. Allen was kicked out, and even Mrs. Medici, who had hurried over, slapped him hard. For the past few days, the biggest news in Texas had been the annulment of their two families' wedding. People used to envy Beverly, who had a good family background, a childhood sweetheart, and two prominent families. But now, she had become the laughingstock of everyone, especially when she chased after Allen so pitifully, it became a subject of ridicule. "I take back what I said about envying Beverly before. A woman abandoned by the groom at the wedding is the most pitiful woman in the world, isn't she? I used to think they were a match made in heaven!" "Exactly! When I saw her chasing after him so humbly, I felt embarrassed for her. And she's almost dying, yet her groom still left her to find another woman. Hilarious!" "Family alliances never involve real feelings, do they? Haven't you seen the reports? Allen has a girlfriend he loves, and Beverly has always been the one clinging to Allen. It's really shameful for us women." "Allen would rather have a poor girl than Beverly. You can imagine how bad Beverly is. Maybe her private life is too messy, and he's repulsed by her!" ... Whether through the overwhelming media coverage or within their own circles, both families had lost face. And the Medici family, who had intended to use the Cape family's funds for a major project, now faced financial trouble due to the project being stalled, adding to their woes. So when they heard that Allen was at the hospital, Mr. and Mrs. Medici rushed over, but even so, they couldn't enter Beverly's hospital room. This went on for a few days. When Casper arrived at the hospital room, he saw Allen standing at the door, continuously apologizing. Casper frowned, muttered "annoying," and had David and his men escort Allen and his group out. Inside the hospital room, Beverly heard the silence outside and looked up, only to see Casper entering and casually sitting down on the chair by her bedside. "What's your answer?" Beverly asked directly. The marriage between families was not that simple, so she knew Casper must have gone back to discuss the matter with his family these past few days.
