Chapter 1: Runaway Bride

The marriage between the Cape and Medici families from Texas made national headlines. At the Medici's hillside villa, countless media held up their cameras, snapping photos of the two families. Onstage, members from both families watched with delight as the couple exchanged rings. Beverly held her breath, nervously and happily watching Allen about to put the ring on her finger. Then Allen's phone rang. The venue fell silent as everyone saw the groom freeze in place while putting the ring on the bride's finger. Beverly's heart skipped a beat; she knew who was calling him. Not just because of the ringtone, specially set by Allen for Lucy, but also because of the message Lucy sent her yesterday. 【Lucy: Beverly, believe it or not, with just one call tomorrow, I can turn your wedding into a joke!】 Beverly anxiously reminded him, "Allen, everyone is watching. Your family, my family, and all the media." For years, Allen always prioritized Lucy over her. Beverly lacked confidence; she feared she wasn't enough for him, so she involved both families, hoping Allen would reconsider his decision. Mrs. Medici anxiously urged, "Allen, what are you hesitating about? Hurry up and put the ring on your bride!" The priest quickly intervened, "It seems our groom is a bit overwhelmed, after all, he's marrying his childhood sweetheart whom he's been dating for over ten years. We can understand." The audience erupted into applause, and the priest urged the groom once again to put the ring on the bride. But just then, Allen looked at Beverly and said, "Lucy must have something important. I'm afraid something happened to her." As Allen answered the call, both families' faces turned sour. Hearing familiar sobbing from the other end, Allen panicked. He looked at Beverly and said, "Beverly, I have something urgent to attend to. Let's postpone the wedding. I'll come back and apologize in person." Without waiting for Beverly's reaction, he thrust the ring into her hand. Beverly's trembling hand failed to catch the ring. As she bent down to pick it up, she caught a glimpse of her groom tearing off his boutonniere and running towards the exit. Beverly didn't bother to pick up the lost ring. She stood up and shouted, "Allen, we just made vows! For better or for worse!" Allen turned to look at Beverly, hesitated for a moment, then said firmly, "I will come back to fulfill my promise. Will you wait for me?" With that, Allen turned and ran. Beverly, only focused on chasing Allen's car, realized too late that another car was being driven by him. "Beverly!" Mrs. Cape saw her daughter being hit and screamed in horror! Beverly fell into a pool of blood, her pristine wedding dress stained red. Even so, with her remaining consciousness, Beverly looked at Allen weakly and said, "Allen, please, just this once, choose me... okay?" About to get out of the car, Allen saw the approaching media and members of both families. Coldly, he said, "Beverly, with so many people here, nothing will happen to you. Lucy only has me; she needs me. " With that, Allen slammed the car door shut, stepped on the gas, and sped out of the mansion gates. The dual blow of physical and emotional pain caused Beverly to faint on the spot. Mrs. Cape, seeing her daughter covered in blood, fainted in her husband's arms. Beverly was severely injured, not just her legs but also her head and internal organs. After two full days of treatment, Beverly finally stabilized, but she remained unconscious, with the possibility of becoming a vegetable. When Mr. and Mrs. Medici came to visit, they said even if Beverly became a vegetable, they would let Allen marry her, and the alliance between the two families would remain unchanged. But before they finished speaking, Mrs. Cape, with a look of grief, rushed forward and shouted, "Get out! Get out of here! Our family doesn't need you!" By the window, a man in a black suit gestured to the others, and they escorted Mr. and Mrs. Medici out. Nicole, who was with Beverly, also didn't like Allen's family. Beverly and Allen grew up together, their marriage arranged since childhood. So Beverly had been the best fiancée she could be to him, with limitless tolerance. But what was the result? The dignified Miss Cape was actually abandoned by the groom at the wedding. Allen was simply too much of a bully! Looking at the closed door, the Medici sighed heavily, then turned to the secretary beside him and asked sternly, "Where's that brat Allen? Still not found?" For two full days, news about their families' wedding disaster spread across Texas, and both families became the laughingstock of others. Beverly woke up five days later, looking at her tightly wrapped body, she couldn't help but cry. A love of over a decade unexpectedly ended in such a way. Seeing her daughter cry, Mrs. Cape's face turned pale with fright. She called the doctor again and tried to comfort her. Fortunately, after the doctor's examination, there was no deterioration. Looking at her visibly exhausted parents, Beverly said sadly, "Mom, Dad, I'm sorry, it's my fault, I've brought shame to our family." Mrs. Cape immediately grabbed Beverly's hand, "It's not your fault, as long as you're safe, nothing else matters." After comforting each other, Nicole accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Cape to find out the next steps for treatment. Only then did Beverly notice someone beside her. "Casper? What are you doing here? Didn't you say you were vacationing abroad?" Beverly didn't expect to see Casper here. Casper raised his eyes slightly, the light green eyes falling on Beverly. "I suddenly wanted to see you in a wedding dress, so I came back. Unexpectedly, as soon as I returned, I saw you being hit. As the one at fault, I can compensate you. Whatever you want, just tell me." "You can take advantage of the situation to make requests, like the project you've always wanted before!" Beverly smiled bitterly. That project was something she fought for Allen. Now that Allen had abandoned her, what was the use of a project unrelated to her family? Suddenly, her phone rang, and Beverly carefully picked it up to see a photo sent by Lucy. At that moment, an evil thought suddenly crossed her mind. She looked at Casper and said, "Anything I want?"
