Chapter 3: I Won't Like You
"Miss, here's your card, we're wrapping the gift, please wait a moment." The staff respectfully handed over the gold card, and Nancy looked at the new season's gifts with boredom. It seemed that this year's styles were more vibrant and pleasing to young people.
After about ten minutes, the staff handed the wrapped gift to Nancy.
A cold voice came from behind her, "Why haven't you left yet?"
Nancy shook the gift in her hand, "Just picked out the gift, I'm on my way now."
She nodded to Daniel and was about to leave, but she was stopped again, "Go choose a headband. Blanche has her hair loose, not convenient."
Nancy turned around and saw the girl in the restaurant across the street. She nervously clenched her fists, pursed her lips, looking like she was about to cry.
She indeed looked pitiful. Even a woman like Nancy felt her heart ache, not to mention a man?
Nancy walked to the accessories area, remembering that there seemed to be a Judy Police Officer doll on Blanche's table. She picked up a rabbit headband casually.
Daniel held the headband in his hand, smiling gently, "It suits her indeed. She likes rabbits."
He didn't linger much and turned to leave. Nancy looked apologetically at the nearby staff again, then took out the gold card, "Please settle the headband, thank you."
Looking out the window, Daniel had already crossed the crosswalk with big strides, leaving only his back.
The CEO buying a small headband for a beloved woman seemed too harmonious to be true.
The banquet hosted by Namei Group was very grand, with many people from the upper circles attending.
But when they saw Nancy without Daniel by her side, they all came up to inquire.
Nancy smiled politely and made excuses, "Sorry, as you know, he's been too busy with work lately, probably can't make it."
Many people were disappointed. No one expected Daniel to be absent from Nancy's business banquet.
But thinking about Nancy and Daniel's relationship, they all tried to be friendly.
In everyone's eyes, this assistant was Daniel's future wife.
But as soon as Nancy said these words, Daniel appeared, accompanied by Blanche.
Blanche nervously hugged Daniel's arm, her beautiful big eyes looking around curiously.
"Nancy, is that Daniel's sister?"
Someone reminded her to look at the door. Nancy turned her head and saw the intimate duo, lips tightly pursed. Then she met Daniel's eyes and understood that he wanted her to go over.
"Sorry for the delay."
Facing the curious looks of the crowd, Nancy smiled gracefully, "Is work over? Namei's banquet can't do without you."
With their tacit understanding, Daniel should naturally know how to respond.
But Daniel's question was unrelated to hers, "She wanted to see what a business banquet is like."
Blanche seemed a bit at a loss and unconsciously reached up to adjust her hair. The headband Nancy had chosen was on her left wrist.
"Nancy, I just wanted to see the world, it won't affect you, right?"
"No." Nancy nodded slightly at her, "It's a business banquet after all, there's no problem with you and Mr. attending together."
With Daniel's appearance, he immediately became the focus, and more and more people started coming over to chat.
Nancy shielded Daniel from alcohol, and Daniel rejected inappropriate approaches for Nancy. The two cooperated tacitly, handling everything with ease.
Blanche was left out, feeling uncomfortable in her heart, and sneaked away.
Nancy keenly noticed her uneasiness, said a word to the lady beside her, and followed her.
"Blanche?"
"Nancy sister, why are you here?" Blanche wiped her tears, sniffing grievously.
Nancy asked the waiter to bring a towel and stood with Blanche in the corridor.
"Everyone has a first time, you'll get used to it later."
Seeing Nancy so calm and composed, Blanche's eyes reddened again.
"Nancy, what did you do to her?"
Daniel's voice came, and both women looked at him.
Blanche cried as she said, "Nancy sister didn't do anything, it's me..."
She lowered her head, tears streaming down uncontrollably.
Daniel walked quickly to her, gently wiping away the tears on her face, "Why are you crying? Where does it hurt?"
His tone was gentle, and his hand wiping her tears was careful, as if afraid his little daisy would break at any moment.
Blanche just shook her head, tightly holding onto his arm.
Daniel looked a bit impatiently at Nancy, "I told you, treat her well."
The waiter came over with the towel at this time and handed it to Nancy, "Miss, here's the warm towel you asked for."
Nancy didn't look at Daniel but handed the towel and handbag to Blanche, only taking out her phone and car keys.
"Wipe your face, there are cosmetics in the handbag, remember to touch up."
"I still have social engagements. It's not polite to keep our partners waiting too long."
Nancy looked at Daniel, who didn't look at her, but his eyes were full of concern for Blanche.
When Nancy turned around, she heard Blanche quietly thank her.
Back in the banquet hall, several bosses surrounded her.
Seeing Daniel leaving the banquet arm in arm with Blanche, more and more people started to inquire about their relationship.
"Nancy, is this Daniel's new favorite? He actually brought her here."
Women around Daniel changed one after another, but the only constant was Nancy.
But he never took other women to important occasions. Yet everyone could see that he treated this girl differently.
The looks toward Nancy now carried a hint of scrutiny.
Everyone knew that if this girl took over, Nancy's position would be in jeopardy.
When the banquet ended, Nancy was the last to leave.
She was about to call a driver when Daniel's car suddenly appeared at the entrance of the banquet.
Nancy frowned lightly. She knew Daniel wasn't in a good mood to pick her up.
Seeing his impatient look, she immediately got in the car.
"Did Blanche go back?" She rubbed her aching temples, closing her eyes tightly.
"Nancy, I told you, she's different. Don't target her." Daniel's tone turned cold, making Nancy uncomfortable.
She put her hand down and looked him straight in the eye, "How is she different?"
Suddenly, Daniel felt a headache coming on, as if he had been infected by Nancy's headache. His temples throbbed.
He turned his neck impatiently, "Nancy, you shouldn't show off in front of her. You make her feel inferior. She cried all the way back."
Nancy smiled wryly. So he came back to interrogate her.
Listening to his caring tone, Nancy leaned her head back against the seat, "Are you serious this time?"
The wind outside the car window was whistling, and the car was dead silent inside, as if the driver couldn't hear their conversation.
After a while, Daniel let out a sigh, "Yeah, trying real dating once looks good."
Nancy turned her head and saw the smile on his lips. Suddenly, she blurted out the words buried in
her heart, "Then what are we?"
"Superior and subordinate." This time, Daniel didn't hesitate at all. "I told you, I won't like you, never."
