Chapter 2: More Important Matters
Daniel left without a word. He never would ask her to tidy up, but he always reminded her to take a shower before bed.
Nancy stood under the shower, her figure reflected in the full-length mirror ahead, mature and sexy, like a blooming poppy.
She was a flower cultivated by Daniel, but she only just realized that Daniel liked fresh daisies.
Nancy didn't sleep well that night, not because of the daisies, but because she was too tired, her head throbbing uncomfortably.
Daniel had a strained relationship with his family and rarely went home. Nancy handled all the family-related affairs on his behalf.
The past few days, she was busy organizing his family's banquet, running between there and the company. After the banquet, she had to go on a business trip, and just returned to continue her daily work, hosting multiple high-level meetings in a day, and then taking orders to pick him up from the South District.
In the company, Nancy was Daniel's assistant. Daniel's time was precious, and many high-level meetings in the company were handled by her. Nancy didn't feel particularly tired before, but now she did. She found all this meaningless.
The next day, Nancy arrived at the company very early. As soon as she got out of the elevator, she saw Blanche, her eyes red, crying as she entered the president's office.
Nancy wasn't curious about why, but she naturally felt that what followed should be Daniel harshly reprimanding Blanche because she knew Daniel hated it when people showed emotions in the workplace.
But she didn't expect that as soon as she sat down in the president's assistant's office, Daniel brought Blanche in, she timidly followed behind him, looking very weak and pitiful.
She whispered, "Mr. Daniel, this will make Nancy sister uncomfortable."
Daniel turned back and rubbed her hair, comforting her, "She's paid to do the job, what's there to feel uncomfortable about? Don't be afraid."
Nancy looked at her innocent face and had to admit that she was really obedient, much like a beautiful daisy, no wonder Daniel treated her so differently. But then, what did she mean to him?
Daniel was already standing in front of Nancy. He had handsome features and a tall figure, naturally giving off an aristocratic vibe, but at the moment, his lips were pressed into a tight line, giving off a strong sense of oppression.
Nancy remained unchanged in expression, stood up, and respectfully asked, "What are your orders, sir?"
She wasn't a daisy, so she didn't have the privilege of showing emotions.
Daniel didn't look at her, his gaze fell on the work notebook on her desk, and he ordered in a deep voice, "Check your email, dismiss Amy from the secretary's office, and let Blanche take her place. You personally mentor Blanche."
Blanche clung to her clothes, nervously speaking up, "Nancy sister, I'll learn from you well. You can tell me to do anything, please."
Nancy didn't understand why Amy had to be dismissed. She was a very capable secretary. But her intuition told her that this had something to do with Blanche.
She didn't expect him to care so much about this little daisy, allowing her to show emotions at work, and even standing up for her directly. What about the clear line between public and private he always talked about?
Nancy didn't want to compare the difference between Daniel's treatment of poppies and daisies anymore. Her voice was without any emotion, "Okay, anything else?"
Daniel looked at Blanche, his voice gentler than with anyone else, "I'm leaving. Talk to Nancy and learn from her."
Blanche bit her lip, nodding, "I'll study hard."
She watched the man ignore Nancy and leave directly. Looking at Nancy, her eyes were somewhat panicked.
Nancy looked at her, calmly asking, "Are you with Daniel?"
Blanche didn't expect Nancy to be so direct, her eyes even more panicked, shaking her head nervously, "Mr. Daniel and I don't have that kind of relationship. It's just that I'm new here, and he's been taking care of me. Nancy sister, please don't listen to rumors."
The position of the president's assistant actually had a lot of power, not only involved in company affairs but also in private life, including meeting the boss's physical needs.
Everyone in the company knew about Nancy and Daniel's relationship. They were even betting on whether Nancy could officially become Daniel's wife.
Nancy's tone remained calm as she said to Blanche, "If you're here to make some gains, you can rest assured with him. He never treats the women around him unfairly."
Blanche shrugged, her eyes red, looking like a frightened little rabbit, continuing to explain, "Nancy sister, I really don't have that intention."
Nancy felt it was useless to say more, so she changed the subject, "Move your desk up from downstairs first, then come find me for work."
Blanche nodded, biting her lip as she left, her back looking very helpless, making Nancy feel like a sinner.
Nancy's brows furrowed slightly, sitting down and opening her email. After reading it, she found out that Amy was dismissed for suppressing newcomers, and this newcomer was Blanche.
She found it strange. Amy was a workaholic and never did anything meaningless. Why would she suppress Blanche? Nancy felt she needed to find out the truth about this.
During the lunch break, Nancy bought a cup of coffee and passed by the president's office. She saw Blanche and Daniel having a meal together through the glass door. Blanche even put food from her plate into Daniel's plate with a fork.
Daniel didn't allow such unsanitary behavior, and Blanche seemed to realize it was inappropriate, her eyes filled with apology, not knowing what to do.
Surprisingly, Daniel didn't blame her and even ate it.
Nancy withdrew her gaze and returned to her small office, opening her notebook, intending to work while drinking coffee.
She had just taken a sip of coffee when Daniel pushed open the door and placed an invitation on her desk, saying lightly, "A business banquet hosted by Namei Group, you go by yourself."
Nancy took the invitation and looked at Daniel who didn't leave immediately. He stared at Nancy with a very cold gaze, and there was a strong warning in his tone, "Take care of Blanche well. She's different."
When Blanche left Nancy's office, she looked frightened, and seeing that, people couldn't help but have ideas. Nancy suddenly realized that she didn't explain either, calmly responding, "I'll do my duty. But Namei is our partner, it's not very appropriate if you don't attend."
Daniel unreservedly denied, "I think it's appropriate. I have more important matters."
In the evening, Nancy went to the banquet alone. Passing by the top luxury gift shop in the Central District, she got off the car to buy gifts.
After handing the gold card Daniel gave her to the clerk, she turned around and saw a couple in the restaurant opposite.
Nancy should have been sad, but she found this scene more amusing.
It turned out that accompanying Blanche for dinner was more important than attending a banquet for a
billion-dollar business cooperation.
