Chapter 62
Mackenzie’s POV.
I thought I'd feel better today, after the drama last night. But I still felt like shit. I thought I'd have forgotten about my argument with Maki last night, but for some annoying reason, I couldn't get the memory out of my head. It played on repeat, like a bad song I couldn’t shake.
To distract myself, I'd called up my friends—all daughters of big shots. Of course, I wouldn't settle for anything less. Maybe they could help distract me from how shitty I was feeling at the moment. I never felt guilty about anything. So why now?
I sipped my mimosa and glanced at my friends sitting across from me at the café. There was Claire, always impeccably dressed and the epitome of sophistication, inspecting her new nails, each one a perfect shade of blush pink. Beside her, Megan, perpetually pouty but with a sharp tongue that could cut glass, played with her phone, occasionally glancing up to meet my eyes. Their conversation was background noise to my racing thoughts.
