Wolfe's POV.
I sat at my usual spot in the VVIP section of my club, my elbows resting on the plush arm of my seat. The dim lighting flickered softly, casting long shadows across the room. The music throbbed in the background, a rhythmic pulse that seemed to resonate with my thoughts.
The previous night’s events replayed in my mind like a bad movie—Makenna’s birthday dinner and that fucking scene with her sister. I swirled the amber liquid in my glass then emptied my glass, feeling the burn as it slid down my throat. I was glad I’d managed to salvage the night with the intimate celebration in my room.
That’s actually what I’d wanted all along, but she had insisted on inviting people. I hadn’t minded until she suggested inviting her sister. And then, that whole mess happened. The memory of Mackenzie’s lips on me still left a sour taste in my mouth. I scowled in disgust.
