Chapter 8: Aria's Panic
Sometimes, Nora realized that she was being cheap, making futile efforts for Austin. She tried hard to keep her composure, not allowing Austin's words to hurt her. "We're still getting a divorce, and the child is yours."
Austin sneered, thinking Nora was joking. She worked so hard to give birth, and in the end, she thought he would believe these words? It was simply absurd.
"Your words are nice. With your cunning nature, why should I believe you? Get rid of it immediately!" Austin said ruthlessly.
Nora's face turned pale, unbelieving that he had just suggested aborting their child.
"No, I want to keep the baby. It's our flesh and blood," Nora asserted.
"Do you know I despise you?" Austin gripped Nora's hand. "I hate you and everything related to you. The child would be a cursed seed. It's better to terminate it now."
Nora's tears fell, shocked and devastated by the cruel and resolute words that attacked her nerves. She was on the verge of collapse, her blood almost running cold, rendering her momentarily speechless.
As Austin led her to the gynecology department, Nora finally realized what was happening. She wiped away her tears and struggled desperately. "Let go of me!"
"Nora, do you know why I don't want to have a child with you? Because as long as there's a child, things between us will never be clear. It's my nightmare. Marrying you is my nightmare!"
"Enough!" Nora, in unbearable pain, slapped Austin with all her strength.
The loud sound halted Austin in his tracks and brought Nora back to her senses. Nora, her eyes blurred with tears, stared at Austin with a look of disappointment. "Let's get a divorce now. I won't give you the child."
Austin was shocked for a while, staring blankly at Nora as he released his grip.
Nora was freed, turning away in a daze. In her life, there was not only Austin but also the child. However, the child would be unfortunate, born without parents. At this moment, she felt lost again. Was her decision the right one?
If the baby wasn't going to be happy, what was the point of giving birth? Nora silently shed tears, unsure of what to do. The child was her memorial to Austin, but it wasn't desired by its father.
"She's pregnant, carrying your child. Austin, will you abandon me?" Aria was extremely fearful, afraid that Austin would abandon her because of Nora's pregnancy. She kept questioning Austin persistently.
Austin, feeling increasingly irritated, pulled away from Aria's hand with a cold and indifferent gaze. "Aria, do you not trust me, or do you not trust yourself?"
Aria stiffened, hanging her head. The sense of anxiety and insecurity made her very uncomfortable. It wasn't that she didn't trust Austin, but as long as Nora didn't divorce Austin, she felt uneasy. The lies would be exposed sooner or later, and she would not only lose Austin but also be hated by him. This was the last thing she wanted to see.
"Of course not," Aria awkwardly smiled and quickly grabbed his hand. "I don't trust Nora. She's so scheming, willing to do anything for her own desires. She almost got me killed, and I'm scared."
Austin distanced himself from Aria. "I don't want to hear Nora's name again. Have some rest if you're tired. Don't bother about things that don't concern you."
Austin left in irritation. Now, he didn't have the patience he used to. When Aria mentioned Nora, it made him uncomfortable, unable to see through his feelings. Thinking of Nora's disappointed and teary eyes, he felt a fear in his heart, afraid that Nora might suddenly leave him. That's why he instantly abandoned the idea of abortion.
On the other hand, Aria's mention of Nora's actions disgusted him. He didn't want anyone tarnishing Nora's reputation. These conflicting emotions tormented Austin, and his recurring headache started bothering him again.
Austin took two pills, took a deep breath, and the headache symptoms eased a bit.
"Here comes the headache again, huh?"
