Chapter 9: Austin, Let's Get a Divorce

Harper's husband, Victor, a good friend of Austin, sat across from him in a white coat. "Yeah, Nora came to the hospital just now. She's pregnant," Austin said, looking rather somber and not particularly pleased. Despite being strong and tall, this man also felt helpless sometimes. While he could command the business world, he faced numerous obstacles in matters of love and marriage. "I heard from Harper. She kept saying you're an asshole," Victor remarked. Austin was indifferent. Indeed, when it came to Nora, he was an asshole. "However, Nora truly loves you. It's been so many years; you should let go. She's the best choice as your wife," Victor advised. Austin shook his head. There were mountains and rivers between him and Nora, and they had hardly communicated in this lifetime. "If I'm with Nora, it would be unfair to Aria. I've wronged her once before, and I can't do it again this time." "What about Nora? She's loved you for so long. Wouldn't it be letting her down?" Victor asked. Austin pressed his lips together, struggling internally. He had given Nora five years of marriage, allowing her to experience the consequences of falling in love with him, and now she should regret it. Falling in love with Austin was the biggest mistake of Nora's life. "I don't know," Austin hesitated, surprisingly unable to be firm at this moment. Nora took out the knitted scarf she had made, black, which complemented Austin well. He always gave off an air of cold detachment, and she loved that cool image. He could be indifferent to everyone, but when he loved someone, he would shower her with all his tenderness. She wasn't sure when she could give it to Austin. She opted to hold onto it for the time being and decide when to present it to him in the future. When Austin returned, Nora was calmly sitting in the living room. She felt a bit desperate. Austin's cruelty and his strong aversion to her created a sense of fear. The previous passion had vanished, and her belief in waiting for him to change his mind was gone. Seeing Nora in the living room, a sense of disgust welled up in Austin's heart. Because Nora's expression lacked the warmth it had before, and she seemed as calm as still water. Nora looked up, her eyes swollen and reddened from the countless tears she had shed. In a hoarse voice, she said, "Austin, I'll let you go. Let's get a divorce." With a thud, Austin's heart seemed to fall into a bottomless abyss. Divorce was supposed to be a good thing. Why, then, when he saw Nora shed tears, did he feel so unwilling? Austin calmly sat across from Nora, furrowing his brow and solemnly saying, "Divorce? Have you thought it through?" Unrequited love—Nora had persisted for five years. She could have persisted even longer. Perhaps she would have followed Austin devotedly for the rest of her life. However, after having a child, when Austin could heartlessly consider aborting their flesh and blood, she retreated. She couldn't let anything happen to the child. If Austin's divorce would allow him to be with Aria, then she wished them well. As long as it didn't harm her child. "Yeah, I've thought it through. Let's get a divorce. I wish you and Aria all the best," Nora spoke with difficulty, looking at Austin's handsome face with a hint of reluctance. "Alright," Austin said calmly, then left. That night, they slept in separate rooms. Nora couldn't sleep, and Austin, even more so, dared not to sleep. He contemplated the words Nora had said during the day. She had told him about the divorce with a resigned attitude. Austin felt uneasy. Why was Nora so carefree? Wasn't she supposed to love him desperately? The next day, Nora got up very early, or rather, she hadn't slept all night. Her face looked a bit haggard. She quickly tidied up and was ready to go out, coincidentally, Austin also came out. Their eyes met, and Austin stared at Nora, who had already indifferently turned away. As they descended the stairs, Austin initially thought Nora would follow him. However, there was a car parked at the entrance, and the person coming out was Colin Mason. Austin's face instantly turned unpleasant, his eyes exuding anger. However, he kept his lips sealed and didn't vent his frustration. "Colin is giving me a ride. You can come later," Nora said coldly. Colin glanced at Austin and chuckled, "Long time no see, Austin." Austin couldn't swallow this insult. As Nora got into the car, he tightly grabbed her hand. "She's my wife. She doesn't need your help."
