Chapter 6: I'll Take Care of You

Nora tightly grasped Austin's arm, struggling to say, "Yes." Austin's eyes were bloodshot, his gaze filled with hatred and disappointment as he stared at Nora. "If I had been a moment later, she would have died!" What? Nora was shocked. How could this be possible? She didn't quite understand. Aria seemed fine last night. She cried and pleaded for Austin to accompany her, and all Nora did was hang up the phone. How could it lead to such a serious incident? "I didn't know," Nora said in confusion. "It's because you ignored her cry for help. She was attacked and almost raped. She called me in the last moment for help. Instead of saving her, you not only ignored her plea, but you also didn't call the police. If she hadn't fought desperately, she would have been raped. Now she's in ICU, just saved from the brink. Nora, I never realized you could be so cruel." Austin tightly grasped Nora's neck to seek revenge for Aria. It's not like that. Aria wasn't assaulted last night; it's clearly a setup. "She didn't ask for help, nor was she assaulted. She called just to ask you to come and be with her." Nora looked into Austin's eyes, realizing she couldn't expect any trust from him. On the contrary, Austin seemed to want her to die. "You're lying. Are you saying Aria got hurt on her own? Nora, stop fooling me!" Austin disgustingly pushed Nora away. Sitting on the ground, Nora felt pain all over her body. But how could the pain in her heart heal? Nora cried helplessly, hugging Austin's leg. "Austin, please believe me just this once. I really didn't ignore someone in need." Austin turned away from Nora, callously pushing her hands away. He uttered in a deep, profound tone, "Nora, we've known each other for so many years. I don't hate you, but I never thought of loving you." Those words pierced Nora's heart. Austin had never considered loving her. With a loud bang, the door was shut, and Nora knew Austin wouldn't be coming back. Nora looked at the half-finished scarf on the ground, picked it up, and brushed off the dust. She had started something, and she needed to finish it. Staying up all night, she focused on completing the scarf. At the scarf's edge, she embroidered the words "Nora". For half a month, Nora hadn't met Austin. Instead, she developed a noticeable tendency to oversleep. She shared her concerns with Harper, who insisted on taking her to the hospital. After a thorough examination, the doctor directed her to the gynecology department and informed her that she was pregnant! Nora's initially low spirits skyrocketed. She looked up at the doctor in astonishment, "Pregnant? Me? Are you serious, doctor?" "Yes," the doctor affirmed. Adding with difficulty, "It will be challenging for your body to carry the baby now, which may pose a threat to your life. It's better to terminate the pregnancy and promptly address your stomach issues. We can't afford any delays." "No, I want to keep it," Nora said, caressing her belly, radiating with the glow of motherhood. Harper was also thrilled to learn about Nora's pregnancy, and being fellow expectant mothers gave them a shared topic of conversation. "You've been married for five years; it's time to have a child. Shouldn't you call Austin and share the joy?" Harper suggested happily. "No need. He probably won't be pleased." Nora shook her head. "Don't talk nonsense. Does he not want children?" "Yeah, he doesn't like children." "Never mind him. Nora, I'll take care of you. Why don't you divorce Austin?" Harper expressed her concern, holding Nora's hand. "What about your husband?" "Oh, him? He's not as important as you." "Okay, after I get divorced, you'll take care of me," Nora said with a smile. Coincidentally, Austin was right across from them, overhearing every word. He hadn't expected to encounter Nora just after leaving the hospital where he had been staying with Aria for half a month. He had caught every bit of Nora and Harper's conversation, and his expression turned grim. Austin didn't mention divorce, and they were worrying too soon.
