Chapter 13 A Familiar Voice
Rosie stood up and went over to Michael. She was upset with his refusal to change for the better. She pinched his shoulder with all her might and said, “That’s because you hurt her deeply, you brat! Make her come back to you!”
“Grandma, I’ve made up my mind.” Michael’s expression darkened.
“Do you want to drive me to an early grave?!”
As Rosie was speaking, she thought about feigning unconsciousness, but Samuel growled, “That’s enough. Your grandma is not feeling well. I’ll be leaving with her now. You’re a grown-up. Make your own decisions.”
“Noted.”
Rosie’s expression turned dark. Samuel completely destroyed her plans to feign unconsciousness! Samuel dragged her out of Michael’s office before she even had time to say anything else.
“Let go of me! I’m not finished!”
She struggled to break herself free, but she could not overpower Samuel. In her anger, Rosie turned her head around and shouted, “I’m warning you, you’re not allowed to split up with Ivanka!”
Soon, Michael was left alone in the office. He looked down and saw the ring on his finger. He had never removed the ring in order to maintain the illusion of his perfect relationship with Ivanka. Therefore, he always found the ring an eyesore.
He frowned and swiftly removed the ring from his finger before throwing it into the garbage bin.
However, this action made it so that his finger was now bare, and he felt that something was missing. But he only thought that this was because he had only just removed the finger. Soon, he immersed himself in his work once more.
Five days passed within the blink of an eye.
Ivanka had been remaining at home during these five days. She occasionally chatted with Sandy McNeil and discussed with Suki about work.
There had been no followups about the case since Ivanka’s last meal with Jonah. Today, she received Jonah’s WhatsApp messages.
Jonah: Ms. Iris, are you free to have dinner with me tonight?
Ivanka: I’m surprised you have free time, Mr. Sadler.
Jonah: I always have time for pretty ladies.
Ivanka cocked an eyebrow and thought. “He must have some sort of business with me.”
Ivanka: How can I help you?
Jonah: Can you send me your address so that I can pick you up? I would like to talk about the banquet and the lawsuit.
Ivanka: Send me the address to the restaurant. I will go on my own.
Although she knew Jonah could find out where she lived at the moment he looked into it, she did not want to reveal her home address for the time being.
After she received the address and time for the dinner, she notified him that she had received his message before putting down her phone.
There would be all sorts of people gathered at the Morris family’s birthday banquet, and everyone would have their own roles to play over there. Ivanka wondered what sort of show Jonah wanted to put on with her during the banquet.
She had a hunch that she would fulfill another wish through this meeting.
Ivanka called a cab and went to the restaurant. When she got off the cab, Jonah arrived.
He wound down his car window and saw Ivanka wearing a purple and white floral dress. Her stunning appearance captivated him. He nudged his glasses up the bridge of his nose and said, “Ms. Iris, I don’t think it’s convenient for you to always call for a cab. Shall I accompany you to buy a car tomorrow?”
Ivanka cocked an eyebrow in amusement. Indeed, she needed a car right now.
“No need. I’m a terrible driver.”
The corners of Jonah’s lips curled upward. “Head in first. I need to park my car.”
Ivanka nodded. She turned around and left.
The attendant came to her. “Good day, Madam. A table for?”
Ivanka took out her phone and showed her a photo. “A table for two. This is our room.”
Two people were taking an elevator when they heard a familiar voice. They turned to look in the voice’s direction.
