Chapter 14 Oh, I’m Your Wife?
Michael’s expression slowly turned into one of cold fury as one thought popped up in his mind. “I knew it! I knew she was up to something!
“I can’t delay the divorce anymore. Otherwise, Grandma is going to kick up another fuss. She almost jammed up my phone today with the calls she made.’
Chiara’s face stiffened up as she thought. “What are the odds of meeting Ivanka here?
“Both of us saw her. At this point, there’s no way I can pretend to have not noticed her.”
Chiara sighed slightly and smiled as she said cordially, “Hi, Iv.”
Ivanka looked a little surprised when she saw Chiara. She smirked when she noticed how close Chiara was to Michael. “What a coincidence.”
When Chiara noticed Michael was looking at Ivanka from the corner of her eyes, she became nervous. But in the next moment, she produced another elegant smile. “Iv, are you here for Mic? We’re both getting something to eat, too. Why don’t you join us? He thought the worst when he saw you and your upperclassman having a drink together two days ago. It’s good to talk it out.”
Ivanka smiled and thought. “Oh, look at that wordplay. She emphasized the word ‘we’ and made it sound like I’m the outsider there. She even made me look like I’m the one flirting around and seducing other men just because I can’t get Michael. Nicely done, Chiara.”
When she noticed how cold Michael’s expression had gotten, she pretended to miss Chiara’s point. “There’s nothing to talk about. I’d best not interrupt your lovely dinner together.”
“Best not interrupt?” Michael snorted.
Just as he was going to tell Ivanka that he would go to the City Hall to file for their divorce tomorrow, a door was suddenly pushed open.
They could easily recognize Jonah from where they were standing. Chiara was taken aback by his looks. However, she still found Michael more attractive.
As Jonah approached Ivanka, she turned around. He was puzzled when she did not walk toward him. “Why didn’t you go ahead? This is an odd place to wait for me.”
Chiara was confused and thought. “Isn’t she here for Michael?”
Michael’s eyes narrowed as he thought. “When did she start dating Jonah?!”
Ivanka smiled and pointed at the duo. “I was waiting for them to head in first.”
Jonah looked in the direction where she pointed and saw Michael and Chiara standing in front of the elevator. His smile widened. “Mr. Barkworth, I wasn’t expecting to see you here.”
He looked at Ivanka. “I think we’ll be dining on the same floor. Why don’t we go there together?”
Jonah was ready to sit back and enjoy the show between Chiara and Ivanka.
Ivanka’s lips twitched slightly, but she did not mind going to the restaurant with them. Hence, she nodded. “Okay.”
After that, she walked toward the elevator.
Jonah excitedly followed after her. His grin widened. It was his first time seeing Michael display such a livid expression. “Mr. Barkworth, you don’t seem to be very happy.”
“Mr. Sadler, why are you with my wife?” Even though he was addressing Jonah, his gaze remained locked on Ivanka.
Chiara’s heart skipped a beat as one thought popped up in her mind. “Is Mic… angry that Ivanka cheated on him? Why would he care? He’s going to divorce her anyway.”
At that moment, she realized what it was. “He’s being possessive. He probably wasn’t hurt by it.”
Jonah seemed a little surprised. “Your wife?”
Ivanka could see Chiara subconsciously tightening her grip around Michael’s arm.
She curled her lips upward to form a polite smile, but there was mockery in her eyes. “Oh, am I your wife?”
As they were chatting, they had missed the elevator. When the elevator came back down and opened, no one walked into it. Ivanka took the initiative and got into it. When Jonah noticed Michael and Chiara remaining in their spots, he spoke with an amused smile, “Are you two planning to wait for the next elevator?”
