Chapter 3
Having sharp observation skills was a basic ability for a successful businessman.
These people had been exchanging glances with Aaron ever since the party started. They were also the ones who had received the most monetary gifts—to the point that their bags were about to overflow.
The company had previously made it clear that the value of the monetary gifts would be the same for everyone, regardless of rank. But these people were clearly treated differently from the rest. It seemed like Aaron had something to do with it behind the scenes.
It was unfortunate that Kiara was still naively assigning such an important job to him.
Even I, the behind-the-scenes boss, couldn't stand watching this anymore.
"What nonsense are you spouting, you rascal? We're not related to Mr. Wembley!"
"That's right! We're only speaking up because we can't stand how you're taking advantage of the company's resources!"
"How dare a pretty face who's living off someone dare to question us!"
I struggled to stay calm. I shot them a glare. "I'll admit that I'm younger and more handsome than you guys, but—"
Halfway through my sentence, I suddenly raised my voice, and my gaze grew sharp. "I personally don't like being called a 'pretty face,' so I hope you won't bring it up again. Otherwise, I'll get angry, and there will be grave consequences."
My sudden outburst frightened them, and they stayed silent.
Aaron's expression changed when he saw someone bullying his lackeys. "You're really asking for too much, you rascal! How dare a jobless slacker, who just got fired, lecture my employees in front of me! Let me tell you—you're not only fired today, but you'll have to leave naked, too!"
I almost burst out laughing hearing his words. It turned out that the business world in Sovannah was really more interesting than in Jygen City. At least you could watch a circus show here.
"Can you speak on behalf of the company, Mr. Wembley?" I looked at him calmly, yet I was extremely worked up inside.
Aaron immediately waved a hand and said, "Of course! Let me tell you straight—Ms. Gibson will be divorcing you soon! She never liked you in the first place!"
I smiled slightly, not at all anxious. "Oh, is that so? Did Kiara say this to you?"
Aaron instinctively nodded. His gaze was full of contempt when he said, "What else do you think? You don't actually think that a chairman of a listed company would actually like a useless man like you, do you? You would've been kicked off for good if it wasn't for Mr. Gibson!"
It seemed like I was right—the Gibsons thought they were strong enough to be on their own now. But they had clearly messed with the wrong person. This trick of theirs wouldn't work on me at all.
If I could turn the Gibsons into the leading family of the four major families in Sovannah, I could just as easily bring them down and leave them with nothing. It was as simple as making a phone call for me.
However, I had a sudden change of mind.
This game of cat-and-mouse had to be played to the fullest for it to be interesting. After all, how could it end so soon when the protagonist had yet to show up?
Aaron wasn't aware of my scheming. He assumed that I had chickened out when he saw me standing there and grew even more unrestrained. "Hey, Quinsley! Are you taking it off or not? Everyone's waiting for you! If not, I'll get someone to strip you instead!"
