Chapter 3

The hospital staff greeted Savannah warmly and started to record her details. "We're in urgent need of specimens at the moment. Are you interested? If so, we can have you sign the papers right now to proceed with the donation." "Yes." Savannah's quick and decisive reply made the staff pause and lift her head in slight disbelief. "May I ask how is the baby?" Savannah knew that the hospital might refuse her if they found out her baby was healthy, so she lied. "The baby's about to stop growing. It won't survive if I carry it to term." "Understood. Please sign here. The procedure will be scheduled for two weeks from now. If you change your mind in the meantime, that's understandable. Just call us to let us know." Savannah nodded. As far as she was concerned, her body was hers to control, and she would no longer let anyone dictate her choices. Suddenly, her phone rang, pulling her back into reality. Wyatt's voice came through the phone. It was soft and caring, completely different from the angry tone he'd used earlier with Camden. "Why haven't you come for your checkup today? Are you feeling unwell? I just finished work. Let me come pick you up," he said. Savannah fought to control the shiver in her voice and tried to sound as calm as possible. "I'm fine. I just miss Chase. I'm planning to pick him up from daycare." Her grip on her phone tightened, her knuckles turning slightly pale from the pressure. Immediately, Wyatt sounded urgent as he advised, "It's not his first day at the daycare. Why are you so worried? You don't need to go there now." He was afraid she might ask anything more. Ever adept at reading between the lines, Savannah quickly sensed that something wasn't right. Casually, she came up with an excuse and told him she was staying the night at a friend's house. Once Wyatt was convinced, she took a cab to the daycare. Sure enough, when she arrived, she saw Wyatt and Brielle, together with Chase Greene, participating in early childhood education activities. Brielle, the glamorous star, was showering Chase with motherly affection. Chase, for his part, called Brielle "Mommy". To an outsider, they looked like a happy family of three. Brielle turned to Wyatt, her smile warm and sweet. "Thank you, Wyatt. If you hadn't convinced Savannah to get pregnant again, she would've returned to work and taken away my resources. I'll always remember all you've done for me these past years." Then, she gently touched his arm with an intimate and dependant gesture. Feeling moved, Wyatt reassured her, "Don't worry. I'll make sure Savannah is stuck at home forever."
