Chapter 2

After marrying Wyatt, Savannah was deeply touched by his devotion. Before long, she found herself completely wrapped in his gentle affection. He'd used the excuse of being nearly 30 and still childless to pressure her into having a baby. During a routine checkup, the doctor had informed her that she couldn't conceive naturally and would need IVF. Savannah felt guilty and willingly accepted the painful procedure, believing it was something she had to endure for the sake of their future. Now, she had learned the shocking truth. It wasn't her who was incapable of having children—it was Wyatt. He had deceived her all along and never intended for her to carry his child. Savannah stumbled out of the hospital in a daze, her mind spinning. Her head throbbed as reality crashed into her like a tidal wave, each revelation slicing through her thoughts like a knife. A gentle breeze ruffled her hair, jolting her back to her senses. In fact, she had always worn her hair in loose waves before their marriage. However, she had cut it into sleek, jet-black strands to match Wyatt's ideal type—to fit Brielle's signature innocent look. Savannah then recalled the countless gifts Wyatt had given her. There were designer bags, jewelry, and everything she could ever want. Yet, every time she received something, Brielle seemed to possess them as well. She often chalked it up to the fact that Camden and Wyatt must simply share similar tastes and never thought much of it. But now, everything was painfully clear. Wyatt's devotion had been nothing but a lie, whereas his manipulation was real. He'd been acting all along, using her to fulfill his twisted scheme of making her carry Brielle's child! In hindsight, there had been early signs of his manipulation. Yet, she'd been too lost in Wyatt's feigned affection to see. She didn't want to accept that she had never been loved, not by Camden or Wyatt. Standing at the entrance of the hospital, Savannah trembled as tears spilled uncontrollably down her cheeks. Her shoulders shook with quiet, broken sobs. Unable to bear the betrayal, she clutched her belly and hailed a cab to another hospital. She was about to make an appointment to terminate her pregnancy when a notice on the bulletin board caught her eye. "In search of human body specimens. When life comes to an end, beyond returning to dust, one can still contribute to medicine and society." Without a second thought, Savannah strode up to the registration desk and asked, "Excuse me, do you still need a five-month-old baby specimen?"
