Chapter 2 An Illness.
Eleanor left the office dumbfounded; she had no strength to shout or claim any right. All she could have was worry about the life growing inside her. She walked lifelessly out of the company.
“Bye, ma'am,” the two security guards greeted, but she didn't reply. The two were surprised by her change of mood because she entered the company with the ultimate smile.
They both watched her retreat back worriedly. The two guards had encountered Eleanor multiple times, and she always treated them better. People around them envied her marriage with Levi, and they always wished to see them together.
She walked towards her car and was about to enter it, but a familiar voice stopped her. “Ma’am,” Harry called her from behind. She halted her steps and turned around.
She looked confused when she saw her husband's assistant. “What is it?” she asked, puzzled. “I will take you home,” he offered.
Eleanor was more confused when she heard that she knew Harry didn't act without Levi's order. 'What is he up to?’ she thought, referring to Levi because the man who sent his assistant was the same person who ruthlessly chased her out of his office.
“I will go home myself,” she said angrily and entered the car without waiting for his reply. 'Boss will kill me!’ Harry panicked as she entered another car to follow her home.
Levi ordered him to take her home safely, but he couldn't because of Eleanor's mood. He followed her to make sure she was safe.
Inside Levi's office,
Evelyn walked seductively in her short red gown with a slit on the left side towards Levi. “How about we finish our discussion?” She whispered to his ears seductively.
“Get out of my office,” no emotions were shown in his tone, and that gave Evelyn hope. She thought, ‘playing hard to get?’
She placed her hands on his hard chest, trying to make him loosen up. “I said, get out!” He fired, making Evelyn jerk up from her position.
She didn't expect such a reaction from him after he had protected his wife. 'This man is unpredictable,' she mulled.
Evelyn went to Levi's office acting like Eleanor's loyal friend, but she had ulterior motives. She hated Eleanor for everything she had and swore to make her lose everything she had. However, she decides to stay beside her as her friend just to fool her, and Eleanor never doubts her or sees through her intentions.
She saw Levi in a drunk state and decided to be shameless and use it to her advantage.
Knowing Levi would misbehave, Evelyn tried to get him to have sex with her, but Levi was dead prey. She smirked cunningly as she undressed, revealing the sexy dress she had underneath.
The fabric was so short that the dress length was below her bottom. If she bent her ass, it would peek out of the dress. One could imagine what she was wearing underneath.
Her boobs were barely covered, only the nipples weren't shown. She sat on Levi's lap. She rubbed her body against his torso, but it still didn't work. ‘'This is crazy' she cursed inwardly.
“Are you insane?” Levi was getting sobered, and she thought she still had a chance, but she was interrupted by Eleanor.
She wanted to continue after left, but she didn't expect such madness from Levi.
“Don't go near Eleanor again,” he said with his cold gaze. Evelyn nodded, wearing her clothes in a hurry.
Evelyn holds her heels and bag, running out of Levi's office. “Fuvk!” She cussed.
Levi sat down with a grim face as he thought about her. 'It is for the better,' he thought, remembering his diagnosis.
“I am sorry, Mr Rodriguez,”
Three months ago, the day she was diagnosed with a dangerous illness with low chances of cure.
Levi went on a trip and had an accident going home. He was admitted to the hospital without anyone's awareness except his friend and his secretary.
He woke up after four weeks, but his life took a critical turn, and immediately he regained consciousness. “Mr Rodriguez, you did a great job recovering,” the doctor said, but Levi was just looking at him without uttering a word.
His condition was unknown to him, and he didn't know how to react to his new state. A man in a surgical scrub ran inside the room with a smile. “Welcome back, buddy,” Finley smiled.
“Finley?” Levi asked, and Finley was shocked with such a question. “Don't you remember me?” He asked, not ready to hear the negative reply.
“Of course I do, but are you people playing games with me? I can't see your faces,” Levi pointed at the doctor with a forceful smile.
Finley's face became solemn upon hearing Levi's statement. He exchanged gazes with the other doctors before looking at Levi.
Levi was confused by the situation because he couldn't tell the expression on his face. “What about hers?” Finley pointed at a nurse. Levi shook his head at him.
Finley swallowed nervously, not wanting to admit the situation. He brought out his phone and photoshopped Eleanor's face. “Who is this?” He asked, hoping there would be changes.
“A nurse? Who is that?” Levi asked because of the outfit. Finley's eyes dropped tears when he realized his friend's condition.
“Are you crying?” he asked. “Something got into my eyes,” Finley dismissed.
“'Let's run some tests, just some aftermath changes,” he patted Levi's back before looking at the other doctors who were already aware of his condition.
“Everything is okay, right?” Levi was more scared because he couldn't read their expressions.
He was diagnosed with prosopagnosia {face blindness}.
He has been married to Eleanor for three years and has never complained about her. He didn't love her at first, but she later grew on him as time passed and the cohabitation became easier.
He never thought of divorcing her, and he saw no reason for having an affair because his wife was enough for him. He didn't have a lover before marriage, so loving was easy, but he never showed any affection to her because he thought it was unreasonable.
But his illness made him feel uncomfortable and feel unsafe around her. He was scared of becoming a loser, and he didn't want to make her life hard even if he later lost everything he had.
His position was at risk if the public learned about his illness. He would be forced to resign, and he didn't want to lose what he had worked hard for.
He decided to divorce Eleanor, but he was worried about what she would do. Seeing how the situation turned out, Levi wanted to use the incident that his wife misunderstood as an opportunity to end the marriage.
He would rather become a cruel bastard than become a loser husband to his wife.
“I am sorry, Eleanor,” he mumbled as he stared at the glass cup in front of him, but he couldn't see the reflection of his face.
He got out of the elevator in a foul mood. He missed noticing the two security guards greeting him—the two guards assigned to the parking lot of a few executives and Levi's.
“Did something happen?” one of the guards mumbled, watching their boss walk to his car. They were the same guards who witnessed Eleanor exile the company. They noticed their mood must have something to do with their relationship, but it was never business.
“Couples quarrel,” the other guard replied.
