Chapter 3 A sorrowful Divorce.

Eleanor got back to the penthouse house with a heavy heart. Her heart shattered into pieces as he walked inside, reminiscing about all the memories she had shared with him. She went into their bedroom, curled up beside their bed, and started crying. She didn't know how to think. She felt betrayed by her friend, but her husband hurt her more. She wanted to cuss him, but she couldn't. Her level of affection was crazy, and she started justifying his actions. “It was a mistake; Vivi is not someone like that,” she mumbled like a crazy woman. Then, the memory of the scene flashed through her mind. “Alcohol! He has no tolerance for alcohol!” She let out a forceful smile, not letting her tears take Over. 'Levi never cheated on me; it was a mistake!’ she chanted in her head, making her emotions dance to the rhythm. But she got suffocated by the heartbreak and was reminded of the harsh words Levi had said to her. It was short, but it crushed her heart and shattered it into pieces. “I can't leave him,” she said. Her love was greater, and she didn't want to lose the future she envisioned for them. She placed her hand on her lower abdomen. “Mommy and daddy will not be separated; I will make sure you miss my baby,” she mumbled, making up her mind to give her baby what she lacked as a child. Eleanor was raised by her father alone before he married her stepmother, and the experience was traumatic for her. After experiencing such hardship, Eleanor couldn't afford to let her history repeat itself on her baby. She stood up and went to the bathroom. After getting changed, she went to the kitchen. She prepared Levi's favorite, even with her broken heart. She waited for Levi, who seemed unlikely to be coming home, but she waited for him regardless. Levi zoomed into the parking lot and got out of the car. He entered his wife's classy living room, which he had decorated. He halted his steps on his way to the bedroom. It was dark in the living room, but he could still sense someone's presence. He switched on the lights, and there was no one else inside except his wife. She sat on the sofa, shooting him a murderous look. “Eleanor,” he called slowly for confirmation after seeing her features. “You should eat first,” she said, trying so hard to hide her sadness. Hearing her speak, Levi could tell that the person was Eleanor, but he was confused when he heard her talk about food after what happened. 'Is she insane?’ he thought. “We have to talk,” Levi sat down, expecting her to do the same. Her heart raced faster than usual, and she knew Levi would never apologize for anything because of his arrogant character. Only one thing is certain. ‘'He is not trying to talk about divorce, right?’ she pondered. “The food should be eaten when it is hot,” she said, acting like she wasn't listening to any of his words. “Sit down,” he said without emotion, but he wasn't cold. “What wine will you like?” She was looking at him with a forceful smile, but Levi avoided her gaze as usual because he couldn't tell how she was feeling by looking at her face. “Eleanor!” With teeth gritted, he called her name. Seeing how she was avoiding him. She shivered with fear, her eyes getting misty as she tried to fight back her tears. “I won't, don't tell me what to do!” She yelled at him. Three years after their marriage, she never yelled at him or talked back rudely, but seeing how the fight was about to start in the living room, she designed it with love. And the memories of her and her husband that have been imprinted to the room break her more. “I want to understand you. It was a mistake. I understand everything,” he said, but Eleanor interrupted him. Shouldn't I be cured? He wondered, staring at Eleanor blankly. “What are you trying to do?” He looked puzzled, but his chest was tightened, blaming his whole existence. “We should reconcile; isn't that what other couples do?” She nodded at him. She was trying her best not to cry. ‘Am I stupid? I should be angry; what am I doing?’ she mulled it over in her head, but her mouth was doing otherwise. “Our marriage has to end; we are not that couple,” Levi uttered sadly. His words echoed in the living room, making Eleanor pause for a while. Heartbroken, Eleanor failed to notice the trace of sadness in his voice. “I shouldn't have gone to your office uninvited; I was wrong.” She blamed herself for finding out. “Are you out of your mind?” Levi shouted at her to make her get back to her senses, but Eleanor wasn't getting her sanity back. “Of course, I am crazy; I will make you question my sanity if you say any more words,” she said, trying to avoid the topic. “Eleanor, it is meant to be; we are not meant to be together. Get that fact into your head, and stop whining like a baby,” Levi spouted, trying to look like a jerk so she could make her decision without being hurt. “We can make it happen___. I am tired of you; I hate the sight of you!” Eleanor was talking, but he cut in and spat words, which made Eleanor's jaw drop. Eleanor looked so miserable. She lost balance, and her butt collided with the hard floor as a result of the crushing heartbreak. His words were sharp and cut like knives. ‘'Everything was fine,' she thought. Levi never showed her any extravagant affection, but she could tell from the way he cared for her in the past that he felt something for her. Was it all for a show? Was I tricked? She thought. Levi wanted to run towards her, but he stopped, knowing that any nice gesture from him would make the divorce impossible. He clenched his fist into balls, deepening his finger into his palm and making it bleed. “Let's get divorced,” he uttered, looking directly into her eyes. Her heart skipped for a while, and she heard the words she feared the most. I'm her marriage. “No…no, Levi!” she shook her head. “I will have the paper delivered to you,” he said, walking out of the penthouse, but Eleanor made him stop by holding his legs. “Let's not talk about it again,” she cried, miserable. You should be angry, not sad! Levi swallowed hard, trying to mask his sadness.
