Chapter 12 Silent Comfort

A rough palm fell on Renee's shoulder, providing silent comfort. Her eyes couldn't help but heat up. She didn't expect she would receive comfort from a man she was not so familiar with and that compared to her family, Anthony trusted her more. "I will find a way to contact that mysterious shareholder. If you encounter any difficulties in the future, remember to call me." Anthony spoke. Then, he waved goodbye to her, stopped a taxi, and went away in her sight. Renee looked in the direction he was leaving in a daze, unable to regain her composure for a long time. Zarek glanced at Anthony thoughtfully and then withdrew his gaze. "Let's go, take you back to the hospital." Zarek's face was warm, and he opened the car door for Renee. According to the doctor's advice, Renee still needed to be hospitalized for observation for a few more days. Zarek still had something to do in his company. He took her to the ward, instructed the caregiver to take good care of her, and then left. Since returning to the hospital, Renee had been preoccupied. She sat dumbfounded in the hospital bed, unaware of what she was thinking. She didn't even notice the nurses coming in and out. After a long time, Renee suddenly stood up, took out papers and a pen from the cabinet by the bed, and sat down at the table. Holding the pen, she left lines of graceful handwriting on the paper. After writing, she covered the pen cap back and placed the pen on the paper. This was the letter for Zarek. She had decided to leave the hospital. The situation outside was not optimistic. She didn't want to waste time anymore, let alone continue to be so passive. Renee picked up her phone, ID card, and the bank card Irina gave her that day to shut her up. She hurriedly left the hospital. The busy doctors and nurses didn't even notice her. After leaving the hospital, Renee made a call. The phone rang a few times, and the other end quickly answered. "Oh, have you finally remembered me?" The voice on the other end of the phone was somewhat mischievous and provocative, but hearing the familiar female voice, Renee smiled heartily. "Puff..." "Why are you laughing? How dare you laugh! I said early on that Nevin is no good! When we were in school, I didn't agree with you to be his girl. How many times have I tried to persuade you? You didn't even listen! Now that you reap what you sow!" It was Rita Simpson speaking. Rita grew up with Renee. They were like true sisters. Although her words were harsh, they made Renee feel warm. She knew Rita was really worried about her. Since her marriage to Nevin, Nevin had firmly prohibited her from contacting Rita, saying that Rita had ulterior motives. He also repeatedly checked Renee's phone and forced her to blacklist all of Rita's contact information. As a result, Renee had many arguments with Nevin, and Gail often helped Nevin scold and criticize her. In the end, to bring peace to her family, Renee could only make concessions, but she wouldn't cut off her relationship with Rita for a man. Instead, she secretly contacted Rita. Now that they had finally divorced, she no longer had to secretly call Rita. Renee sat in a taxi and cautiously asked, "Do you know everything?" Rita was furious about Renee's weak attitude. She even wanted to rush out of the phone and scold her. "Who else in our circle doesn't know? Do you know what kind of reputation you have in the circle now? That bastard Nevin, I'm going to kill him one day! I'm telling you, if you dare to think of remarrying him, I'll tie you to the hospital first to check your brain!" Renee knew Rita was afraid her mind might not be clear and that she would jump into Nevin's trap again. She smiled lightly, but her eyes were a bit cold. "Don't worry, I only have one idea for Nevin now. I would do anything to make him pay the price." Hearing her statement, Rita's breath softened a bit. "I heard your house has been sealed by the bank. Where will you go? Are your bank cards frozen?" "Yes, frozen." Renee leaned weakly against the back of the seat, her eyes drooping, emitting a hint of decadence. "Where are you now? Are you in a car?" Rita heard the noise of traffic. "Yes. If you want to see me, I'll meet you at CitiBank." "Okay." Hanging up the phone, Renee looked at the bank card. Now she could only rely on it for living. She still had a few dollars, but they were only six or seven hundred. According to the prices in Riv City, she couldn't even rent a single room. Over ten minutes later, Renee got off at the bank entrance. Pushing the door into the booth of the ATM, she inserted the card into the ATM. Soon, the ATM reminded her, "This card has been reported as lost. Please go to the counter to cancel the loss report first." Renee sneered. Sure enough, Irina wouldn't be so kind. She had gone back on her promise, Renee pulled out the bank card, casually threw it into the trash can, and turned around to exit the booth. Rita had arrived. She was just getting out of the car. When she saw Renee, she waved and walked to her. "Are you here to unfreeze your bank card?" Renee shook her head and explained, "Irina gave me a card to hush me, but she later reported card loss." "Hush? Do you know some secrets about her? Forget it. Let's talk on the way. Get in the car first." Rita drove a Mercedes over, and Renee sat in the passenger seat. Along the way, she explained in detail the recent events to Rita. Rita pounded the steering wheel in anger and said, "Nevin and Irina, two bastards! I can't just let them go! What are your next plans?" "Find a job first." Renee now had almost nothing on her except for her phone and ID card. She studied media in college and took elective courses in English and Russian, as well as photography and art design. She achieved top grades in all these classes. But since marrying Nevin, Nevin didn't like her to appear in public. In the name of not wanting her to be too tired, he opposed her finding a job, asking her to stay at home as a full-time wife. In fact, she was just a nanny for Gail. The previous nannies couldn't bear Gail's temper. They all left because Gail always made them angry. In the end, the burden of household chores fell on Renee. Although Gail came from the countryside, she got a picky taste after living in the city for a few years. Therefore, Renee was forced to develop good cooking skills. "Anyway, you won awards the most when we were in school. But later on, you were trapped at home by that bastard Nevin. You had wasted all your talent. Fortunately, it's not too late for you to find it back." Rita said, suddenly glancing at Renee and saying, "By the way, where's your cat? Did you give her to Nevin?" Renee suddenly remembered. "Shit! I forgot about her!" Perhaps because there had been too many incidents in the past few days, or because she trusted Zarek so much that she didn't even remember Candy.
