Chapter 16 Andrew's Attitude
Lillian sat beside Sharon, naturally indulging in her own devious thoughts.
The more she thought about Clara's current status and abilities, the more she felt the growing gap between them, and the rising unease threatened to consume her whole being.
"Mrs. Sharon, now that Sovereign has finally appeared in the public eye, it's bound to attract a lot of attention. If we spread this news, maybe Clara won't have time to pester Matthew anymore."
Sharon's eyes lit up, but then she reconsidered and gave Lillian a disapproving look. "If we spread it, won't that make that little bitch even more famous?"
She didn't want Clara to prosper, especially after deceiving the Garcia family for three years.
Clara deserved to be firmly pushed into the mud, where no matter how hard she tried, she wouldn't be able to climb out!
"Mrs. Sharon, listen to me. As long as we spread the news about Clara's identity, and then..."
Listening to Lilian's whisper in her ear, Sharon's face lit up with a smile again.
"Lillian, I must say that you are indeed my most satisfactory daughter-in-law!"
Lillian pretended to sigh with difficulty. "Mrs. Sharon, I only want what's best for Matthew and you. I'm definitely on the same page as you. It's just that my resources are limited right now..."
Considering she had only recently returned to the country, it was understandable that she wasn't familiar with the local scene.
"I'll take care of this matter. You focus on building a relationship with Matthew during these days. Besides, the Baker family and the Garcia family have cooperation. You should seize this opportunity and make sure that little bitch doesn't come back!"
The memory of being trapped by Clara, locked in the basement for days, and emerging covered in stench made Sharon want to strangle her.
"Don't worry, Mrs. Sharon. I'll definitely work hard." Lillian smiled faintly, appearing very obedient.
But only she knew what she was truly thinking.
Meanwhile, Clara had just stepped out of the elevator and entered the underground garage.
She heard footsteps approaching rapidly from behind.
Quickening her pace, she sensed the figure getting closer as if about to grab her shoulder. She swiftly turned around and threw a punch at the approaching figure.
Matthew was taken aback, immediately raising his hands to block the blow.
However, the force of the punch forced him to step back several paces.
Matthew stared at the woman in front of him in disbelief. "You know how to fight?"
Clara's eyes flickered as she changed the subject. "Mr. Garcia, is there something you need?"
Her tone was cold and indifferent, completely different from the person he had known for the past three years.
If he hadn't been certain that the person in front of him was Clara, Matthew might have thought she was someone else entirely.
How could someone's emotions and behaviors change so drastically overnight?
"Why did you hide these identities from me for the past three years?"
Matthew's dark eyes gazed deeply into her eyes, not wanting to miss any subtle expression.
"Mr. Garcia, that's my private matter." Clara tossed out a casual reply and turned to open the car door.
Bang!
The door was slammed shut by someone.
The anger and pressure emanating from Matthew enveloped Clara.
Impatiently, she turned around. "Matthew, we're divorced. I had no reason to disclose anything to you."
Clara couldn't understand why he suddenly cared after three years of indifference.
Was he crazy?
Matthew stared at her expressionless face, his frustration fueling his anger. He grabbed Clara's thin shoulder with a bit of force. "So, you've been pretending all these three years!"
How strong must one's character and composure be to deceive others completely for three years without being noticed?
A thought flashed through Matthew's mind.
Perhaps three years ago, he had truly been plotted by her!
The realization filled him with resentment, and he involuntarily tightened his grip. "I'm asking you. Was our marriage three years ago all according to your plan?"
Clara winced in pain from his grasp and pushed his hand away.
"Mr. Garcia, are you dissatisfied with these three years of marriage?" She sneered and leaned lazily against the car.
A beam of sunlight illuminated her, making her hair seem to shine.
The smile didn't reach her eyes, and her voice carried an unprecedented indifference. "Mr. Garcia, I thought you were well aware that our marriage was just a transaction. Now it seems you have actually fallen for me..."
Matthew was shaken, his eyes narrowing.
Without hesitation, he denied it. "You are presumptuous!"
Upon hearing that, Clara shrugged indifferently, her smile mocking. "In that case, Mr. Garcia, please refrain from interfering in my affairs in the future. We have nothing to do with each other anymore."
With that, Clara turned and got into the car, leaving him behind.
As the car drove away, Matthew couldn't shake off the feeling of unease brought on by Clara's words.
He felt something was wrong but quickly suppressed it.
David happened to approach and found Matthew standing there lost in thought. He hurried over to remind him. "Mr. Matthew, Mr. Andrew is awake and wants to see you."
Matthew snapped out of his thoughts, his expression icy as he turned. "Have someone investigate Clara. If you can't find anything in the database, check the black market!"
He needed to know how much Clara had kept from him!
Seeing Matthew's furious demeanor, David couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
It seemed Matthew had been dealt another blow by Clara.
As Matthew and David returned to the ward, they found Andrew sitting on the bed with Willian and a few doctors examining him.
Hearing Matthew's arrival, Andrew coldly snorted. "Do you have the nerve to stand here? Did you find Clara like I asked?"
At that, Matthew frowned but remained silent.
Seeing his expression, Andrew knew exactly what was going on in his mind.
He was so angry that he picked up a paper cup nearby and threw it at Matthew.
"You think you're something now, huh? Clara hasn't been good enough to you these three years? You think you can just divorce her like that, thinking I'm old and useless, huh?" Andrew yelled, his neck veins bulging with anger, his blood pressure rising.
William Smith, standing beside him, quickly intervened, "Mr. Andrew, Ms. Edwards was here just now. After she finished checking on you, she went to handle some matters. Young people are impulsive. You should focus on your health first."
"Otherwise, who will be able to control Mr. Matthew in the future, right?"
Andrew's mood stabilized somewhat at these words.
However, there was still a hint of resentment in his gaze toward Matthew. "I can't even control my own life now, let alone him!"
Feeling helpless, Matthew had to yield to Andrew.
"I will handle my matters with Clara. You focus on recovering, Grandpa."
Andrew sneered. "Don't think I don't know you're just trying to get rid of me here. Let me tell you. The position of your wife is reserved for Clara. No one else can even think about it!"
