Chapter 7

Feeling the warmth emanating from her belly, Emma looked at Lucas with a complicated gaze. She had to admit that even though her boytoy came from a mysterious background, he was at least obedient. However, what she needed right now wasn't a man. Emma gritted her teeth and steeled herself. "Luke, there's something I need to talk to you about. "I need to go abroad for some time, so I might not be able to see you anymore. However, I'm very grateful for how much care you've shown me." As she spoke, she pushed a black card across the table toward Lucas. "The money in here is enough for the rest of your days. You were never meant to be with me forever anyway—" Before Emma could finish her sentence, Lucas' grip went slack, and the dish went crashing to the floor with a loud clang. His eyes reddened, and his handsome face drained of color. He looked like a fragile doll that could shatter at any moment. Then, without any hesitation, he knelt on the shards as if he couldn't feel any pain. His eyes grew teary. Blood quickly began to pool at his knees. Shocked, Emma quickly tried to help Lucas up. She furrowed her brow and asked unhappily, "Luke, are you hurting yourself so that you'll get your way?" Lucas shook his head hurriedly. He said pathetically, "No, Emma. I just feel like I must have done something wrong for you to not want me anymore. "But I'm not like that bastard, Seth. I truly love you. If I've made a mistake, then just tell me. Don't cast me aside, I'm begging you." Lucas' gaze looked broken, and Emma nearly felt sorry for him. He picked up the black card only to shove it back into Emma's hand. "I don't need these things. I'm not with you because I want your money; I just want your love. I don't even need us to be official." He lifted Emma's hand and pressed his face against it. Seeing his delicate and pitiful expression, Emma's heart couldn't help but ache. However, she could tell that Lucas was seeking answers. She looked down at her belly guiltily. Should she tell him that in order to obtain a piece of the Burton family inheritance, she needed a child? The only thing she could do now was to calm him down. "Listen to me, I'm just going overseas for a while. I'll be back soon." After much coaxing from Emma, Lucas was finally willing to leave. However, while gazing at her sullenly, he made her promise that she wasn't lying to him. Emma nodded, ignoring her conscience. Then, Lucas suggested that Emma go meet a friend of his. Hoping to appease him, she agreed reluctantly but said that she only had time the week after. After all, she had matters to handle during this time. There wasn't much time left before she would reveal everything to Seth. Emma didn't slack, either. She went back to hers and Seth's marital home numerous times. Meanwhile, Seth poured all his attention onto the pregnant June, as if he was already certain that Emma would yield. He continued to wait for her to contact him, not even realizing that she had blocked him. He never even went back to their marital home. Well, this made things easier for Emma. Five days later, she dismissed all the housekeeping staff in her home. Then, she signed the real estate purchase agreement with the buyer and the real estate agent. As she left the villa, she turned back to give the place that had given her so much hope and suffering on her wedding night a final look. She watched the new owner move their things into the house. Smiling gently, she turned around to leave. This time, she didn't look back.
