Chapter 4

When Emma walked out of the doctor's office holding a positive pregnancy report, she was dazed. Suddenly, she remembered her grandfather's will. The first grandchild in the Burton family to have their own children would be entitled to the inheritance of their family assets. That was not all. Seth had also already signed the divorce settlement agreement. It was true that the best things came in pairs. However, before she could even break into a grin, she saw the two approach her. June was smiling shyly while leaning delicately against Seth. Her hand rested on her lower belly carefully. Meanwhile, Seth's gaze was filled with warmth and affection. They looked like a newlywed couple, while Emma—Seth's legal wife—felt more like the odd person out. Emma didn't want to know what these two were doing in the obstetrics department. Just as she turned around to leave, she heard June's sickly sweet voice say, "Seth, I told you that Emmy would come. When has she ever been truly mad at you? You really should be nicer to her." Then, Emma heard Seth's familiar footsteps come closer. He stopped in front of Emma, blocking her way. With the same cold and arrogant gaze, he looked down at her and said unkindly, "Why did you come to the hospital but not the hospital room that I requested?" He immediately began to interrogate her, like she wasn't his wife but his servant. Remembering that she was barely one month pregnant, she didn't want to fight with Seth. She merely looked up coolly and asked, "So, why were you looking for me?" Before Seth could respond, June stepped forward. She grabbed Emma's wrist in an intimate manner. "Emmy, it's because we have good news that we want to share with you, of course." Emma's gaze fell on June's hand, and she stared at it like it was a piece of trash. The corner of her lip twitched, and she said snidely, "Don't call me 'Emmy' like we're sisters. My parents didn't have a second daughter." Hurt, June pulled her hand away. Her eyes instantly welled with tears, and she turned toward Seth tearfully. As expected, Seth's expression turned stormy. He said sharply, "I was the one who fell for June first. If you're angry, then let it out on me. How laughable; June was even concerned about you." Emma nearly burst into incredulous laughter. "Tell me, how has she shown me any concern?" Seth's eyes landed on June's abdomen. His gaze softened. Seeing him like this, Emma suddenly felt a bad feeling about this. Sure enough, in the next second, Seth said like it was the most logical thing in the world, "June is pregnant. However, she's willing to register you as this child's mother, so the baby would be yours." Emma's mind instantly went blank, and she felt like she'd suddenly plunged into the icy depths of the ocean. Her heart and even her limbs ached from the chill she felt. "Seth, what are you saying?" Emma's breathing grew quicker. She had to try very hard to suppress the urge to slap the two people in front of her. Seth frowned like he didn't understand Emma's anger. Pushing his glasses up his nose, he looked at her calmly and coolly. "Emma, let me tell you this straight—I will never ever touch you in this lifetime. "You will never have your own children, and I know about the Burton family's rules. "For you, June's baby is a lifeline. You should be thanking her instead."
