Chapter 3

Emma was about to answer the call when Lucas snatched the phone from her. "Em," he said, his eyes flickering with lust, "this is our time." Emma pulled a stern face, which was something she rarely did. She pushed Lucas off of her. "Let me take this call." It wasn't because she thought of Seth as important or anything. Rather, it was because Seth had never called or contacted her first since they got married. Due to this, she couldn't help but wonder if Seth had found out about the divorce and wanted to discuss the division of assets. Lucas' long eyelashes fluttered, casting shadows across his pale cheeks. "Does this mean that he is still more important to you than I am?" It was like she had unleashed a green-eyed monster. Seeing Lucas like this, Emma suddenly felt a little guilty. To comfort him, she planted a kiss on his lips. It was supposed to be a form of consolation, and she never thought that it would escalate beyond her control. Swept up in Lucas' passionate desire, Emma suddenly regretted it slightly. She felt a headache coming on. When they finally stopped, the sky had already darkened. Emma glanced at her phone to find that Seth had left her 20 missed calls. She raised an eyebrow. Lucas was still trying to leave marks on her body, and she shot him a look to stop him. Then, she called Seth back. Almost immediately, Seth picked up. Before Emma could parrot the scripted excuse that she'd prepared in advance, Seth spoke first in an icy and mocking tone. "Is this all you got, Emma? "Why don't you show me the full extent of your temper? Let's see if you dare to ignore my phone calls for 24 hours." Emma found this a little funny. It turned out that Seth saw her as such a spineless person, as if the only revenge she could think of after getting utterly humiliated was to just ignore his calls. Nevertheless, it wasn't strange that Seth thought this. After all, during the week that they got married, Emma had really thrown all her self-respect to the wind to get him back. Setting aside her status as a wealthy heiress, she'd trailed after Seth like a dog with its tail between its legs. She did not care what others thought of her. Just to get him to look at her, she had nearly gotten down on her knees. That was all. She just couldn't understand why her first love—the young man with whom she'd spent her youth—changed after marriage. As if she'd lost her mind, she'd desperately wanted to make Seth become the person he used to be. However, under his apathetic gaze, she had slowly lost every bit of hope. Emma glanced at Lucas beside her while trying to suppress her resentment. "What's the matter?" She was rarely ever this cold to Seth. Her icy tone left him astounded for a moment. Then, he spoke coolly but firmly. "You'd better come to the hospital address that I'm about to send you within half an hour. Otherwise, you'll have to deal with the consequences." Without saying another word, Emma hung up and got dressed. Lucas pressed up against her again. "Don't go, Emma. He treats you so badly," he said. His voice was dripping with unhappiness as well as indignance. Perhaps Emma had been mistaken, but she thought she'd seen a flash of murderous intent and resentment in Lucas' docile eyes when he mentioned Seth. Emma smiled slightly and patted Lucas' head. "Who says that I'm going to the hospital for Seth?" She already had a guess in her mind; she just needed to confirm it. Not only that, but she was also curious why Seth was looking for her so urgently.
