Chapter 8 The Illegitimate Child
Oliver had finally returned to Billy City after numerous trips, feeling utterly exhausted. He'd been on the road for quite some time, visiting many places, and was wiped out.
Upon landing, Oliver headed for the restroom, but someone bumped into him from the back. He heard a sweet voice. A little girl had accidentally run into him, and though he was unharmed, she winced in pain.
Oliver looked down and saw the little girl holding her head. He noticed something familiar about her, but he couldn't quite place it. He thought he was probably out of his mind. Why else would he think a five-year-old girl looked familiar?
The girl raised her head, tears in her eyes, and said, “I’m sorry, mister.”
Nancy ran past Oliver and dashed toward the ladies’ room before he could say anything.
After he was done, he waited at the door by himself. The people who passed by thought he was a pervert when they saw him.
Oliver was not interested in explaining himself. His mind was on the girl. If his eyes were not deceiving him, the girl resembled his older brother.
Despite being Elvis's brother, Oliver did not think they looked that much alike. However, that little girl bore an uncanny resemblance to Elvis. Oliver started speculating that she was his parent’s illegitimate daughter.
He didn’t think it was possible, given his parents' love for each other. There was no way his father could do something like this.
‘Could it be…? Is Elvis the father? To top it off, Elvis made me search for a mysterious lady!’
He wondered if the search was related to the little girl in some way. The more he thought about it, the more it seemed plausible. He wanted to find the girl and discover her mother's identity.
However, he waited over 20 minutes, and the girl did not come out. Oliver went to find staff members to search for the little girl in the ladies’ room.
The staff members came out and shook their heads. “I’m sorry, sir. We didn’t see a five-year-old girl in there. Are you sure you’re not confused?”
“That’s not possible. I saw her with my own eyes. She bumped into me and ran in there. Did you search for her carefully? She’s right in there. I waited for her out here once I was done. It’s impossible that she got away.”
The staff members, however, found themselves in an awkward position. They honestly had not seen a little girl in the restroom. “Could it be that you’re confused? We were right in there, but we didn’t see any little girls.”
Oliver put down his briefcase and walked toward the restroom. However, the staff member stopped him.
“Apologies, sir. If you insist on entering the ladies' restroom, then we’ll have to take action. It’s against the rules.”
Oliver gradually realized that his actions were unbecoming. The little girl could be related to his elder brother, but it was not a proven fact after all.
There were other ways to find out the little girl’s identity. Oliver apologized to the staff, “Forgive me, I was acting hastily. I’ll leave.”
He left the airport quickly and decided to speak to Elvis about the girl.
However, Oliver was unaware that Nancy had not gone to the ladies’ room after all. She waited for Oliver to enter the men’s room, then she dashed to the other, more distant restroom.
That was why Oliver didn’t see her again when he came out.
Meanwhile, Julianna was worried sick about Nancy. She was about to go look for her when Nancy ran out of a crowd.
Nancy gave her a big smile. “I’m back, mom. Let’s go.”
Julianna let out a sigh of relief when she saw Nancy come back safely. She rubbed her daughter’s head. “What took you so long? I was worried.”
Nancy said hurriedly, “There were a lot of people, so I waited for a long time before it was my turn.”
Julianna didn’t sense anything unusual, but Herman glanced at her. He knew something was up but said nothing.
He would ask her about it later, curious about what his sister had experienced. He could not believe she had lied to their mom.
Helena pushed them along because it was time for them to leave. The driver was waiting for them at the entrance.
They walked out with their suitcases and saw the driver Helena had arranged. Julianna fell silent when she saw a couple of Maybachs parked at the entrance.
“Aunt Helena, any car would have been fine. Don’t you think Maybach is a little showy?”
Helena looked at Julianna in shock. “Geez. What makes you think Maybach is showy, my dear? On the contrary, I think this is what low profile looks like.”
Julianna and her twins were stunned. Helena meant it when she said she was rich.
Helena grinned. "It looks like the way I’ve always carried myself wasn’t clear enough. I’m actually filthy rich. Come on, let’s go.”
