Chapter 6 The Engagement Party

The twins were excited about returning to Billy City, asking Helena daily about the food and activities there. Helena answered them with great patience. After two months, the buyout of Julianna's company was completed, and she received an email from the Oli Group. Her workload remained the same, but her pay increased by 20 percent. It was a development she appreciated. However, Julianna focused on finding a new house in Billy City. She had no intention of returning to the Wilson family, who had treated her as a disgrace. She hesitated before texting Kevin since it was late. “Wow, are you aware it’s two in the morning? I need to sleep. Finding a new house can wait. You haven’t even gone back yet.” “I can’t start house hunting after I move back. Are we supposed to sleep on the streets?” Julianna asked bluntly. Kevin was annoyed. His curiosity had landed him in this situation. She treated him like a servant, and he could not say no. “Alright. I’ll look out for the houses available in Billy City after I wake up tomorrow. Can I send you updates then? I beg you. Let me sleep now.” Julianna was not the type to force people against their will. Once she had Kevin's promise, she hung up and let him return to his beauty sleep. It was late and she needed some rest, too. She entered the room and smiled at her sleeping twins, giving them a kiss each. "My darlings, you may not have a father, but you’re not loved any less than those who do. I’ll give you all my love and make you the happiest kids in the world.” Julianna left the room quietly. Unbeknownst to her, the twins opened their eyes after she left. Nancy was a little sad and held Herman firmly. He didn’t say anything to her. Instead, he held her back. … Moving houses was no small feat. The first step was finding a house in Billy City. Only then could she move their stuff over gradually. Helena asked her niece, “We lived in Shako Town for a long time. Now that we’re moving out, I still find it hard to let go. Have you found a place for us to stay there?” She was done wrapping the last of her stuff with tape. Julianna nodded. “Kevin’s looking for a new house. I’ve booked a hotel for us to stay for the time being.” “That’s fine, then. Make sure you tell me if you need some money.” Helena was dead serious when she said it. Helena had told Julianna that she’d been rich more than once in all these years. However, Julianna had always smiled and thought nothing of it. This time, Julianna gave Helena her usual reaction. She smiled and didn’t say anything about the validity of her claim. Helena didn’t push further. After all, she lived like an ordinary middle-aged lady. No one could tell she was wealthy at all. That said, she believed that Julianna would come to believe her claim in the future. Herman found Julianna while holding her phone. "Mom, you had a call from an unknown number.” Julianna was a little puzzled. ‘Was it a call from a customer?’ However, this was her private phone, and no one should have had this number. Julianna took the call and heard her stepsister’s voice. “Hello, Julianna. It’s been years since we talked. It’s me, Brandy.” Herman watched as his mother left the room to talk privately. Something wasn’t right. He went to find Helena. “Grandma Helena. I heard Mom talking to someone over the phone earlier. She said her name was Brandy. Who is she?” Nancy, too, looked over curiously. Helena looked troubled but explained, “Brandy is your mom’s sister. But they don’t share the same parents.” This revelation confused Nancy. ‘They were sisters, but they didn’t have the same parents? How did that make Brandy her mom’s sister?’ Herman, on the other hand, understood. Helena talked about her with them before. She was his mom’s stepsister. “She’s a nasty lady. Why is she calling mom?” Herman was a little upset. Helena patted his head gently and said, “No idea. Let’s ask your mom when she comes out.” Julianna was in the study, feeling highly uneasy. “You haven’t called me for a long time. What do you want now?” “Calm down, Julianna. You were wrong and brought shame to the Wilson family. Now, I’m getting engaged to Sean. I’m inviting you to join my engagement party. “Oh. Speaking of, I heard you gave birth to two kids. You should bring them along. Dad’s probably looking forward to meeting them.” Brandy appeared innocent, but she was not. Julianna knew about it all too well. There was also the part where she said Albert was excited to meet the twins. That was even more of a joke. Albert would never look forward to meeting her twins because they did not know who their father was. “I have no interest in joining your engagement party and want no part of it. Do you really want me to come back? Half of the Wilson family’s properties belong to me, while the other half belonged to my mother. You know this.” Brandy was quiet, like she was trying to keep her cool. Julianna heard the sound of something being shattered. Then, Brandy said, “What are you talking about? I only wanted to invite you to my engagement party, Julianna. It has nothing to do with the properties.” “You know very well it has something to do with it. There’s no need to pretend with me. I’ll gladly return if that’s what you want, but the properties will be mine when I’m there.” Julianna didn’t want to waste another second with Brandy and promptly hung up.
