CHAPTER 27: BROKEN DREAM
Shirley never knew that losing a child could make someone so devastated, even if they'd never met said child before. The weight of it pressed down on her heart, a constant ache that never seemed to lessen. Every day was a battle to find even the smallest feeling of peace.
Shirley sat by the window in her room, staring at the garden. The room was dim, the only light coming from a single flickering scented candle on her bedside table, which her maid had set up to soothe her pain, but it did nothing to calm her sorrow. Her maid, Nyx, was tidying up the room, and her movements were quiet and efficient.
"I dreamt about her again last night, my baby," Shirley said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "She had Drakon's eyes."
Nyx paused, her hands stilling on the fabric she was folding. "You should eat something, Luna," she said gently. "You've barely touched your food today."
