Cordelia was taken aback and then earnestly replayed the scene in her mind.
'Is Benedict implying he doesn't remember what Maisie just said?' she wondered.
'Why would he bother explaining it to me, though? It seems unnecessary. I don't care about these things.'
Suddenly, it dawned on Cordelia. "Are you worried about being caught red-handed and reported to Mr. Archibald?"
She had overheard before that Benedict's eagerness to marry was actually a trade-off with Archibald, but she didn't catch the specifics.
Either way, they both had their motives.
Benedict glanced at her, his narrow, cold eyes adding a layer of chill.
Cordelia scoffed. "I'm not that despicable. As long as you cooperate with me for these three months of marriage, I'll find the right time to talk to Mr. Archibald about divorce later. Let me handle the mess. You just play innocent. Fair deal, right?"
"Suit yourself."
