When Megan heard someone bid five hundred thousand dollars, she almost choked on her drink.
But before she could even react, things got even crazier. Megan and Jeanne just stared at each other, thinking either they were hearing things wrong, or everyone else had gone nuts.
"Mr. Odell, five hundred thousand dollars? No way. I'm offering two million dollars—this painting is mine," said a gray-haired man in his 50s, sitting at the main table. He smiled like dropping two million dollars was no big deal.
The man being addressed as "Mr. Odell" laughed and said, "Well, looks like someone knows what they're doing. Fine, I'll stop trying to get a bargain. I'll bid three million dollars."
Then, a rich-looking middle-aged woman chimed in with a smile, "Sorry, gentlemen, but I like this piece too. I'll bid 6.6 million dollars.
