The journey back to Woolstone was a blur of familiar sights and unspoken emotions. Jane, lost in thought, barely registered the rolling hills and quaint villages they passed. The betrayal of Fred still stung, and the growing closeness with Lucian was a confusing storm brewing in her heart.
"Nervous about seeing your mother?" Lucian asked, his voice a low rumble that broke the comfortable silence.
