Fido shook his head, tears now freely flowing down his cheeks. "Maya would want me to be happy," he said brokenly. "And I can't be happy here. Not anymore."
Juliet looked at Caleb, desperation in her eyes. "Aren't you going to stop him?" she asked, her voice trembling. "He's your friend. He's hurting."
Caleb swallowed hard, his own emotions raw and tumultuous. "I haven't forgotten anything, Juliet," he said quietly. "But if leaving is what Fido needs to heal, then I won't stop him."
Fido looked at Caleb, his expression a mix of anguish and resentment. "I don't blame Juliet," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I blame myself. I should have protected Maya."
Juliet reached out to Fido again, her heart breaking for him. "Fido, please," she said softly. "Don't blame yourself. Maya made her choice. She chose to save me."
Fido shook his head, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I can't do this anymore," he said, his voice cracking with emotion. "I need to be alone."
