Wolfe’s POV.
I stared at Mackenzie, still grappling with the shock of her unexpected appearance. She looked exactly like Makenna but with an air of sharpness that was both intriguing and unsettling. I cleared my throat, trying to regain my composure.
“Well, your appearance was pretty quick,” I remarked. “I actually just spoke to Will. I wasn’t expecting you until tomorrow, but it shows a good work ethic that you were here earlier.”
Mackenzie’s lips curled into a confident smile as she shrugged while maintaining an air of indifference. “When it comes to my work, I’m all in. I have no time to laze about. Otherwise, someone would get my job.”
I chuckled at her fierce response. “How did you get the job so easily? It’s still strange how you’re here.”
She remained composed, her eyes steady on mine. “Firstly, I didn’t get the job ‘so easily.’ I worked my ass off to get where I am. I knew Will from business school; we did our Master’s program together at Harvard.”
