"Now, tell me everything," Olivia prompted as she handed Ethan a glass of what looked like vodka. He gave her an appreciative look immediately after he knew what it was before taking a small sip and then placing the glass down.
"My wife's in the hospital."
"My goodness!" Olivia shrieked, "What happened?"
"She was in an accident some days ago, and she had to be operated on. She sustained a lot of head injuries, some broken ribs, and a twisted ankle. He paused, then picked up the glass and downed the whole thing with a single gulp.
"But, how did it happen? Where was she going? And where were you?"
"We had just argued, and I raised my voice at her." Ethan paused and eyed the now-empty glass, wishing something was still left in it. He could already feel the first one settling deep in his stomach, lightening his head and loosening his tongue.
