CHAPTER SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY – NIGHTSHADE
As she secured the cuffs around his wrists, Antonio and the others emerged from the warehouse. The firefight was over, Diego's men either captured or fled.
Jasmine hauled Diego to his feet, spinning him around to face her. "Why?" she demanded, her voice shaking with emotion. "Why did you shoot Marco?"
Diego's eyes met hers, and for a moment, Jasmine thought she saw a flicker of regret. Then, to her horror, his jaw clenched and unclenched in a strange motion.
Before anyone could react, Diego's eyes rolled back in his head, and he collapsed to the ground. Foam bubbled from his mouth as his body convulsed.
"No!" Jasmine screamed, dropping to her knees beside him. "Antonio, call an ambulance!"
But it was too late. Within seconds, Diego was still, his eyes staring blankly at the night sky.
"Cyanide," Antonio said grimly, kneeling beside Jasmine. "He must have had a capsule hidden in his mouth."
