CHAPTER THREE HUNDRED AND SIX – FINDING GARCIA
Jasmine's heart pounded in her chest, her palms slick with sweat on the steering wheel. She had never driven like this before, had never been in a situation even remotely like this. But the memory of Silva, of his sacrifice, pushed her on.
She took a sharp turn onto a narrow bridge spanning a deep ravine. The truck fishtailed, tires screeching as they fought for purchase on the worn wooden planks.
For a heart-stopping moment, Jasmine thought she would lose control, plunging into the chasm below. But somehow, she managed to straighten out, the truck roaring across the bridge.
In her rearview mirror, she saw the first police car attempt the same maneuver. It didn't make it. The car spun out, crashing through the bridge's flimsy railing and disappearing into the ravine.
Jasmine felt a pang of guilt, hoping the officers would survive. But she couldn't afford to dwell on it. Not when her own survival was still very much in question.
