CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY EIGHT – RUNNING FROM THE COPS
As they drove towards the city limits, Jasmine's mind was spinning. Just this morning, she had been preparing to say goodbye to Gordon. Now, she was running for her life, embroiled in a conspiracy she barely understood.
"Silva," she said softly, "what exactly was Gordon investigating?"
Silva was quiet for a moment, considering his words carefully. "It's big, Jasmine. Bigger than just a few corrupt cops. Gordon uncovered a network that goes all the way up to some of the most powerful people in the city. Politicians, judges, business leaders – all in bed with organized crime."
Jasmine felt a chill run down her spine. "And they killed him for it?"
Silva nodded grimly. "Gordon was getting too close. He had evidence that could bring the whole thing crashing down. That's why they're after you now. They think you might know where that evidence is."
