CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY SEVEN – THE TRUTH BEHIND THE MURDER
A young officer led a handcuffed man past her, their heated argument filling the air.
"I'm telling you, I didn't do nothing!" the man protested.
"Tell it to the judge," the officer replied, his voice tinged with boredom.
Jasmine's gaze flicked to the large clock on the wall. Fifteen minutes had passed. Then thirty. Her leg bounced nervously as she checked her watch again.
A man in plain clothes settled into the chair next to her. He was unremarkable in appearance, the kind of face you'd forget as soon as you looked away. But when he spoke, his voice was low and urgent.
"Ms. Delacroix, listen to me carefully," he murmured, barely moving his lips. "My name is Silva. You're in danger."
Jasmine's heart leaped into her throat. "What?"
"Don't react," Silva warned. "Detective Collins is involved in Gordon's murder. We need to get you out of here now."
