CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED TWENTY - The Final Gambit
"Excuse me."
He made his way to one of the outdoor decks, the cool night air a welcome relief. He leaned against the railing, looking out at the moonlit ocean, his mind a whirl of conflicting thoughts and emotions.
A few minutes later, he heard soft footsteps behind him. "Cassius?" Mara's voice was gentle. "Are you okay?"
He turned to face her, struck once again by her beauty in the moonlight. "I'm fine, I just... needed a moment."
Mara moved to stand beside him, their shoulders just touching. "It's a lot, isn't it? Being here, surrounded by all this luxury and celebration, after everything we've been through."
Cassius nodded, grateful for her understanding. "It's not just that. It's..." he hesitated, unsure how to put his feelings into words.
Mara turned to face him, her expression open and encouraging. "What is it, Cassius? You know you can tell me anything."
He took a deep breath. "Mara, I... I think I'm starting to see you differently. And it scares me."
