Chapter 28 It Won't Happen Again
As soon as work ended, I took a cab straight to the Pierce residence. I knew Calvin wouldn't pick me up.
Sure enough, Calvin was already there when I arrived. A group of people were chatting and laughing, while he looked completely out of place.
His aunt, Heather Pattson, greeted me with a smile as she pulled me inside.
"I told you, our daughter-in-law really knows how to... make the most of things. This bag must be at least five or six years old. I suppose it'll still sell for a few hundred dollars. And this outfit—if someone didn't know better, they'd think you're an intern from some company."
Heather had always been sharp-tongued. She'd once tried to introduce her friend's daughter to Calvin, but I'd ended up with him instead. Since then, she'd always had a few jabs for me whenever we met.
I just smiled and stayed silent. Most of the Pierce family members knew about my situation and saw me as a joke.
Suddenly, Heather seemed to remember something and quickly covered her mouth
